The damn MOD is planning to cut ten regiments. Including the Black Watch and the Royal Scots (the Royal Scots were formed in 1633, and are the oldest regiment in the Army!) Other regiments named by the Sunday Telegraph include the King's Own Scottish Borderers, the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, one Irish Guards battalion and one Gurkha battalion.

The Gurkhas?!? Has Labour lost it's collective little mind? One of the best light infantry forces in the world and you are going to cut it? Have you morons have no sense of history? Haven't they noticed that they world isn't a very safe place?

Feh.

Mess Sergeant! Strike up the pipes!

The Romans were gamers! Christie's is auctioning off a 2nd century glass d20!

"Several polyhedra in various materials with similar symbols are known from the Roman period. Modern scholarship has not yet established the game for which these dice were used. " We know! D&D III edition!

This brings up several disturbing possibilities..

1. Lou Zochhi is either a lot older than we suspected, or is a time traveller.

2. The lead poisoning that drove several emperors mad didn't come from pipes and drinking goblets, but from too many nights painting orcs for the climatic battle at the end of the campaign.

3. Why was Julius Caeser really killed? He ran a group through the Temple of Elemental Evil at low level.

4. WOTC will have dXX Glory of Rome out real soon now.

Teen wins $100 in "Survivor" immunity challenge. San Diego girl bets producer she can create segment -- and wins! by Dalton Ross

MIND GAMES Cusick (inset) conceived a new "Survivor" challenge in which contestants compete to form the most words out of the show's title

Apparently Mark Burnett is not above using child labor: The brain-teasing immunity challenge on "Survivor: Pearl Islands"' Thanksgiving-week episode had a youthful creator, 14-year-old Kylie Cusick of San Diego.

Earlier this year at a viewing party for "Survivor: The Amazon," Cusick approached challenge producer John Kirhoffer claiming she could easily create a competition for the show. Kirhoffer offered her $100 if she designed a game good enough to make it on the air. She did just that, conceiving one in which contestants compete to form the most words out of the show's title.

"One of the challenges we wanted was a mental one," host Jeff Probst says. "Something we'd never done, and it was so basic." So imagine Cusick's surprise when she actually saw her idea on TV. (Score!) After the episode, she received a package including tiles from the game, the original tree mail, and, of course, that $100 bill. (Double score!) Throw in a call from Probst, and Cusick has the coolest story for show-and-tell...well, ever. But isn't Kirhoffer a tad worried about losing his job to a sassy teen? "Hey, if somebody has a good idea -- I'm taking it," he says. "I'll give them the credit, because I still have the job." For now.

Good for her! That was an excellent challenge.

Searching around, making icons, look for a good picture of Jerry, and I find this.

Since writer's block is still preventing me from doing anything useful...

Working towards the point where I can afford fifty, but I already have 25 or so that I like. And these fifteen will do for now.

[livejournal.com profile] dafydd gave us some of his old program cds when he switched from PC to the Mac. Among them was The 7th Guest. Remember this classic, (At a party I solved the Library puzzle with little more than a glance) I installed it and began playing.

It was a little rocky.. the program didn't seem to like our screen size, and have everything stop cold when Ego or Stauff said something interrupted my solving puzzles (or, I admit, entering the solutions using the Strategy Guide.)

But tonight was the final straw. Kiri and I sat down with glasses of wine to double team the game, and we had finally negotiated the maze. We were just entering the Crypt.. and the system crashed! Arrrgh!

Uninstalled that puppy. Take that, you badly rendered maniac!

Thank's to [livejournal.com profile] hlw, I've now acquired slots of fifty pictures. I've been a busy penguin.

Check 'em out!

Thank you, Howard!

Any suggestions on what to do with the several slots I have left? I was to do a Survivor-themed one, preferably an animated gif of the torch.
