Kirsten called earlier, we have been approved for a place we both loved, a triplex in Santa Clara. YAY!

Now comes the fun part. We're moving. The plan is simple:

Saturday, July 31st is Final Packing Day. Everything is either in a box or out the door to Goodwill or the dumpster. We could use some help here.

Sunday, August 1st is Moving Day. We'll have at least two, maybe three large vehicles to move things between our current place and the new place. What we really need is people to help move things. We have some furniture that needs to be moved down one flight of exterior stairs, and into the new place.

Helping for an hour or two would be great. Anyone who helps out for the day will be treated to food.

Back when I was a grunt, a Warning Order was issued when it was expected that some sort of action or movement was coming, but the exact nature of the mission was not yet clear enough for an actual mission order.

Consider this a Warning Order.

We believe we are very close to getting a new apartment, possibly as soon as tomorrow. We had hoped to use [livejournal.com profile] kshandra's coworkers and vehicles to move, but they are all off this weekend. Likewise, early inquiries among my coworkers show that most of them already have plans for the weekend.

So, if we do get this place in Santa Clara, and are able to move this weekend, we are going to need help.

To be specific, we will need:

  • 2-3 people able to carry furniture and boxes down one (1) flight of stairs at the current Offhand Manor.

  • 2-3 people at the new place to offload and place furniture and boxes.

  • a person who can drive - safely! - a Ryder 12' truck if need be.

Currently the plan is to have [livejournal.com profile] kshandra at the new place and me or one of our mothers at Offhand Manor acting as directors.

We cannot afford movers at this point, or we'd let them do all the work.

Anyone who wants to help is welcome, but I really need people who can help me move furniture out of our apartment, downstairs, onto a truck, and then into the new place.

As a reward, we're thinking of treating for Mongolian BBQ.

This is just a WO, but I'd love to hear some replies from people who'd be able to lend a hand when we get this place.

  • What can I say, I've been busy.

  • Packing for the move continues. The bedrooms are about done, and that's ninety percent of the problem.

  • Still more stuff for Goodwill.

  • We've seen two places in the last two days that we really want.

  • Today's was a Triplex in Santa Clara. Loved it.

  • But until we hear something, all we can do is keep cleaning and packing and hope for the best.

  • Work is not cooperating with my need to move.

  • Did 11 hours on Friday.

  • A big problem is the lack of warehouse support. We're using some temps, and they can't work overtime.

  • Which means a couple of days the trucks haven't been loaded.

  • Which adds an hour or so to our morning prep time.

  • It's frustrating.

  • Giants Baseball.. torture!

  • Admittedly we've been on a tear, and are now three games out of first place in the NL West.

  • But the G-men seem to thrive on drama.

  • Currently reading Gaunt's Ghosts: The Founding by Dan Abnett.

  • I really love the WH40K setting. The unending conflicts have solid reasons behind them, and the Gothic horror overtones are well explained.

  • Abnett does a great job of showing how even in the GrimDark future of Warhammer 40,000 hope and love and happiness till exist for most people. The endless wars and inquisitions and corruptions rarely affect more than a tiny portion of the Imperial worlds.

  • Sort of like Earth. We have some real hellholes, but most people just live their lives.

  • Giants get a four-game sweep of the Diamondbacks. Great road trip, 6-1 and they looked solid.

We saw the perfect place today. Great location, nice size, quiet street... and as we walked out of the bedroom the people who were also looking were writing out the deposit check.

Fuck.

Back to the grind.

Went to see another place tonight. Not only was the person who was supposed to show the place late, and there was another person also waiting, but the building was a trash-strewn hole. The obvious gang members hanging around sealed the deal. We left without a second thought.

Two more on Saturday. Wish us luck.

Just back from seeing an apartment that looked good on paper. One bedroom in a restored Victorian downtown. Nice neighborhood, beautiful house, bedroom the size of a postage stamp. We could have gotten the bed in there with no room for anything else. Also we were put off by the hard sell from the owner. The complete lack of closet space also spooked us. Everything we owned would have had to be stored in the living room. So, no deal.

Seeing another place on Thursday, two more on Saturday.
