Doing a little research, I find myself at the French Foreign Legion's website.

The maximum age for enlistment is 40.

I'm 40.

Saying "We have (insert item), we will not surrender." has become a tradition around here.

Did you know I got hate mail over the white kepi in GT: Ground Forces? I used it in one chapter's intro text, and a guy writes me a long, long freaking rant about how the French are Evil, the FFL are all rapists and murderers, and I should be banned from writing for daring to honor them.

...the bullshit level seems to be sky high for those guys day-to-day and they're stuck with the FA MAS.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like they are bad ass individually but the people they work for keeping feeding them shit by the dumptruck full.

The Paras are the worst, the ohter units less so.

This may have changed but I doubt it.

As completely wingnut batshyte fruitbar insane as it sounds, I did semi-seriously consider going FFL for a while there a few years ago, when I was having no luck with any employment. I retained a little French from three years of HS and felt I could do the job pretty well. In the end, though, I realized that if I didn't entirely like the military the first time around (USCG) then I sure as hell wouldn't have any fun at all the second time around.

Plus the FFL appears to be more or less the first French unit put into the meat grinder whenever France sends troops anywhere. I don't imagine the gendarme deal very well with the Legion Estranger too well, either.

As it is, I became somewhat gainfully employed before I seriously decided to join the Legion. Which all told is probably for the best. =)
