I'm watching a show on one-hit wonders. Coming in at about 85 on their list was Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky.
OK, you can't get more Christian Rock than this, and I'm a hardcore atheist. But I love this song! It's the guitar riff.. yeah, that's it!

Date: 5 Sep 2004 17:19 (UTC)They contradict a basic tenet of every flavor of that religion I'm familiar with ...which is only a matter of intellectual curiousity to me these days, having been an agnostic for some years now.
But I like the song too. I think Christianity wound up with a lot of the good melodies, one way or another ...although I mostly prefer their stuff that's at least fifty years old :>
Modern Christian music, what I've heard of it, seems to get a free pass from music critics because of its content.
