When Kirsten got laid off, we lost our health benefits. Realistically, there was no way for us to make the COBRA payments. This meant that I ran out of Trileptal the other day (we had thought we had more time to get the refill.. oops.)

Needless to say, this stressed me out. Never mind the horrible thought of seizing again, just stopping anti-convulsants cold is a really bad thing to do. So Kiri was doing some benefit hunting, and found a way to get me a free month's supply. Which I just picked up.

Yay Kiri! Yay Drugs!

So now I need to find out if I'm going to get benefits from work - and soon.

These last few weeks has turned me into something of a single issue voter, as you might imagine. I will vote for the candidate committed to establishing national health care with reasonable prescription medication prices. There has to be a stronger safety net than the county ER. It is insane that in this nation, we have men, women and children who cannot get even the most basic preventive health care because of cost.

and the most insane part is the lobbying from the HMO's saying that reforming the current system would stop the access to specialists etc ... Canada and other countries show differently

A hypothetical question:

If President Bush were to propose a prescription drug program similar to the Medicare program he signed, such that you qualified for said program, would that tip the scales in favor of your voting to reelect him?

I don't expect President Bush to propose legislation along these lines (then again, I didn't expect him to sign the recent Medicare prescription benefit bill); I'm just curious as to whether such a proposal, in the absence of a similar proposal from the Democratic party, would shift your vote....
