Random bits of Baycon (Part 2)

Okay, back into it!
Parties
The Traveller in SF Party went well. We started out with the theme of the "Last Minute Party", since we didn't know we would have the room until well, we knew that
aurictech would not be sent back to the sandbox. By Sunday night, the theme had been changed to "Misjump to Paradise". As usual, we got way too much food. But we had a nice, relaxing time of it, and had pretty good foot traffic.
Since I was a party host, I only got out a little. I did hit the BASFA party, but missed getting my BASFA Member ribbon. Wandered past the Con Suite a few times but it seemed to run in two speeds: dead and slammed. Seeing three Captain Jack Sparrows was fun. <;j user="johno"> had a nice party, but I had to race back to ours. We ran Saturday and Sunday. Along with the Misjump theme, Sunday is also the "Please God, eat our food!" night. We gave most of the leftovers to the Gopher Hole. Including the disposable printer. They'll eat anything.
Next year, we have clearance to do the Imperial Marine Celebration of Emperor Strephon's Jubilee as the party theme. I will have an Imperial flag, recruiting posters, and most importantly, Marine uniforms ready.
Fuel to Feed the Duck
I actually ate fairly well. Sleeping on the executive floor has it's advantages, like a free breakfast buffet-thing. That, and reduced prices at the Coffee Garden (they more than made up for it in sheer volume) meant that I remained full all weekend. This doesn't mean I didn't snack! Oh, no.. I hit the snack stands the hotel kindly set up for pizza and a Coke a few times. I missed the omnipresent "Baycon Food Courts" we had in 2003, but this worked just as well.
And yes, I drank about 4 gallons of Coke. Hey, It's me we're talking about here!
Not all treasure is silver and gold...
First of all,
aurictech showered me with gifts. Two t-shirts (Astroburger from just outside Barstow, and the LGOP t-shirt.) He also gave me a copy of In the Presence of Mine Enemies by Turtledove.
In the bookish theme, I picked up Years Best SF 9 and Childhood's End from Other Change of Hobbit; who might not be going out of business after all! This is great news, as buying from Tom is a Baycon tradition for me. He had all the entries for this year's Retro Hugo Best Novel out. 1953 was an amazing year for SF!
Bought one button. But why is the rum gone?
One gaming thing: Dungeon Craft from Fantasy Flight Games. 15% off the cover price! Wish I'd had this before my panel on the subject Friday night! (Rupert rolls his eyes...)
Got an autographed copy of After the Vikings by G. David Nordley. This is a collection of his Mars stories. Gerry is a Baycon regular, so I was happy to support his work.
Then, it happened. I was killing time in the Dealers Room when I saw it, the Holy Grail.. A Baycon Seven shirt! This is, by far, my favorite con shirt ever. A yellow t-shirt with a cartoon disaster movie poster piece of art. Very silly. Talking to the booth monkey, he shows me the box, and it's Ali Baba's cave! Con tee's going back 25 years, all never worn, and..
SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Timecon '84!!!! My very first "real" convention! $10 for two pieces of my fannish history? SOLD! When I showed off my finds to a friend at the Reg desk, she sent me back in search of a Timecon '86 shirt. Found! I think the Rondeau's could have paid for their table in three hours if they had put all those shirts out front on Friday, instead of hiding them in back. I also grabbed this year's shirt. First one I've wanted in a while.
Only missed out on one thing. A really neat Times Square marquee and the equipment to program it. By the time I got the OK from Kiri to spend the extra money, they were sold out. But I got their card.
My Ribbon-Fu was weak.
I wimped in the ribbon collecting arena. I ended up with the following:
MULTI-PASS
GUEST
PARTY HOST
FRIENDS OF TUX
I should have had BASFA MEMBER as well, but they ran out.
kshandra ended up with 12 ribbons. I bow to her Ribbon-Fu.
Next year, I'm going to have CAMP FOLLOWER made up for the party, if they do the horizontal ribbons again.
The people.. too many to remember, so consider yourselves mentioned here.
Wow, another year in the books. Can't wait for next year! (Jesse, get to work on that armor!)

If it's the badge sized, http://www.thinkgeek.com/ has them. If it's the other, do you have a URL?
