When I discuss metal with friends or online, one of the bands I'm constantly being told I should listen to is Godsmack. Poking around on YouTube listening to their songs, I see why. And hey, you gotta love a band that gets banned from WalMart for obscene lyrics!

Godsmack - Awake

And now a Bonus Track! Megas XLR was perhaps the best thing ever shown on Cartoon Network. To sum the "plot" up, two Jersey car freaks find a giant robot (missing it's head) in a junkyard and buy it. Coop (the smart one) then attaches his Mustang and wires in videogame controllers. The robot's rightful pilot (a hottie named Kiva) and the bad-guy aliens also come back in time. Chaos ensues. But that's not important. You watched the show for the theme by the Ragtime Revolutionaries (now Deathwish Nine)

OK, that was odd. I've complained in the past about the guy living next door to us with his four boys. Stereos and video games turned up to levels where they rattled the walls, the endless yelling for one kid or the other to come upstairs. Just recently, I contemplated murder.

Today we were leaving to do some errands and their door was wide open. Except for a basketball and a bucket filled with cleaning supplies, the place was empty. Funny thing is, Randy hadn't mentioned anything about moving to us, and when we saw them yesterday it seemed a normal Saturday. They must have moved out last night. Quickly.

When we got home from a trip to the skeevy hot tub place and shopping, Kirsten learned that they had been served with an eviction notice. They seemed to have every electronic toy known to man and a really nice TV. I don't think non-payment of the rent was an issue. Maybe too many noise complaints?

But who moves out in the middle of the night? Even if you're skipping on the rent, did they think we were going to call the landlords?

Well, at least it will be a little quieter around here for a while, and the wait time for the laundry will go way down.

I'm hoping for some Trappist monks to take the place. Or mimes.

Oh, the hot tub place was a no-tell motel with jacuzzis, but the water was hot and (after about a half hour) the sauna was pleasant.

OK, I have had it with the whinging and bitching over the demise of ad-free Basic Accounts. How about some facts?

1. LJ/Six Apart/The Russian Overlords are businesses who exist to make money. Freebie accounts that use resources and do not generate income do not serve this end. I'm amazed it took this long.

2. A one-year Paid Account costs USD19.95. That's about half of what [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and I paid today for 90 minutes at a skeevy hot tub place. Put it another way, a paid account costs about 5 cents a day. A six month account? 8 cents a day. This is not going to freaking kill you!

3. They aren't our servers, our software, and when the system crashes we aren't the ones paying for the repairs. They own LJ, it is not some sort of anarchist commune. They own the sandbox, they make the rules. If you don't like the rules, feel free to play somewhere else.

So not only will I not be taking part in the utterly pointless March 21st "No Content Day," I may see if I can top my personal records for number of posts and length of those posts!

Finally, I know some people, including friends and relatives of mine, have created multiple, in some cases hundreds, of Basic Accounts for role-playing games. To them I say: too bad. In fact, I suspect the thousands of sock accounts might be part of this move. If y'all wish to keep RPGing by LJ, you'll have to find a new way to do it.
