I've been a bit remiss about updating with meaningful content recently. Thing is, we've reached sort of a lull in life. No immediate crisis that threatens ruin and plagues of small furry mammals, no Great Revelations into the Meaning of It All... the Niners suck and the Giants off-season moves are barely worth mentioning.
But life staggers on here at Offhand Manor. We've finally reached the promised lull at work, so things have been relaxed (having only two jobs to do today was nice.) Evidently, this Saturday Fremont warehouse (yayyyy!!!1!) is taking on Hayward (boooo!!!!) in basketball. Terrifyingly, I'm playing. Basketball is not one of my strong points. But as Chris pointed out I'm the second tallest driver at Fremont and I'm just like Warriors' great
Rick Barry in two important categories:
1. Our last names sound the same.
2. We're both white.
Who can argue with logic like that?
Kirsten now knows two out of the three gifts she's getting from me. The first was a gimme, since I had her help pick it out. But the second, she found the damn receipt which I
know I threw away. Ah, well. I got the squeal of joy a few days early, and she doesn't actually get the gift until the 25th. I still need to go out and grab stocking stuffers for her.
Back to work for a moment, we're changing plans, and the new dental plan may end up costing us less out-of-pocket for my teeth. The extractions will be cheaper at any rate (although still bloody expensive.. $30 a tooth, and I have about 20 teeth left.) Hopefully, we'll work something out. Nice thing about the new plan is no annual maximum.
The meeting where we learned about our new benefits was amusing. The guy who came out to brief was a Suit, born and bred. And he wandered into Blue Collar Central. Even worse, we're not the most, err. respectful of groups. I really almost felt sorry for him when he said "I believe Bismark is .." and before he could finish, 2/3rds of the room shouted "FUCK BISMARK!"
I haven't been keeping up with writing on the Concordat project. It's sort of in Limbo right now. I'm beginning to think about
not selling it to SJG, but instead using it as a setting Bible for some of my own fiction.
Speaking of fiction, I've now read
1632,
1633, and
1634: The Galileo Affair. Still loving the series, although I was bummed to see that someone has already written the "Germans are introduced to baseball" story I was thinking about.
Tomorrow, we need to get all the holiday cards done.
