I just ordered Thousand Suns, written by maliszew. I took part in many of the discussions about the book, and offered to do some work on the default setting military.

Along with my hard-bound copy, I got a PDF download. I get a credit, and looking at the setting section, there's my work, ready for people to use.

I will never get tired of this feeling.

The entire game is excellent, and I am going to run it this summer. Using my own Concordant setting, of course. Which means I'm going to need to get busy. Because we're all adults with lives, I'm figuring on a once a month weekend gaming/dinner/more gaming session, with some side stuff done on a dedicated LiveJournal group. So, if you are local, and are interested, please fill out the poll. I emphasize local because I'm using this to plan things. Thanks.

Back in the day we got all that great British SF. Blake's 7, Star Cops, Dr. Who, Survivors... It was a cash cow for the local PBS stations who could depend on huge turnouts from SF fans during membership drives.

I shall be picking your brain again in the future and, with luck, I can even pay you for your efforts this time. :) I have a book on starships and running a "big ship" campaign on the schedule and I'm certain you have quite a few insights on these subjects that'd serve me well. And then of course there's the ground forces book further down the line ...

Well, I'm not entirely local (Sacramento ftw!) but I'm close enough that once a month could be feasible. The catch would be that I would be entirely dependent on the train, which stops running at a certain point in the evening, and doesn't pick up until early the next morning. Hence, if I were to do this, crash space wouldn't be nice, it'd be a necessity. ;)

(And while I didn't mark 'would need a ride', I would probably have to have some explanation on how to shuffle back and forth from the train station. I'm not afraid of public transit, though.)

Judging from what I'm seeing in the poll, the people want Exploration, Intrigue, and Deep Mysteries. Considering I've been reading Simmons, Reynolds, and Banks recently, I think I can come up with something.. I like my universes hard SF, with as few techno-miracles as possible unless they fit into the setting and make sense.

Well, given my love of Ken Hite and Fortean shit, and the fact that I loved Seeker, I imagine a plot centering around a Macguffin, perhaps some sort of carved bird or small furry lizard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Winslow) or something, and the various groups searching for it, coveting it, demanding its destruction, or offering large sums of cash to forget it ever existed would be in order. That seems to offer what people are asking for, as well as allowing a good number of character types who you might find on an artifact hunt.

I'd love to vote in this poll, but as you said, coming to the game once a month from an another continent might be a bit hard.

I might have to pester my friends here to GM a scifi game for me, though.

(Oh, and as I said on the TML, I wasn't that much interested in the game from the first reports, but I still might buy it as it seems not to be standard d20 stuff. At least I could read it for ideas...)
