Yesterday, I worked close to 12 hours in 100-degree heat.

I didn't get home until almost 2000hrs. Sleep didn't come until after midnight, and was fitful at best.

Damn right I stayed home today. I'm so groggy I'm not going to chance my bike, let alone a truck!

Could be worse.

Could be raining.

And dusty.

(50MPH gusts today, plus the wet. And then I got to walk from 3:15 and Boreal to 6:30 and Esplanade. Fucking yay.)

Ah, Piss Clear...that was one of their fake ads a couple of years ago.

(Walking past their camp on my way back from the blue room earlier this week, I noticed a "8/28 - Never Forget" sign hanging from their dome.)

...and while we're on the subject, [livejournal.com profile] dafydd's boss J just walked in playing Delivery Boy. Had fun catching up with him; he's taking this week remarkably well.

I found their website, and was amazed at the ads. Some of them should be used by the real companies. The VW "Burners Wanted" with a convertable Bug in front of two art cars, was great.

To balance out the above, I should at least mention that walking to work tonight meant I got to see the double rainbow over the Man and the Lamplighters procession (which affects me roughly the same way as the Women's Motorcycle Contingent does at Pride), and I got to the Post Office to mail out my postcards, so they should actually get to their destinations about the same time I get home.

I hope you're sitting down, I may actually go next year.

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!

(Seriously, Angel - if you want to make this work, I would LOVE it. We'll need to do some serious upgrading of my current infrastructure - particularly in light of this afternoon's weather, I insist on having a carport for personal shade next year, as they were remarkably sturdy throughout everything - but I think it's doable.

Now, d'you think they'll let you take your truck for the week? We could use the space.... ;-)

I've spent so much time and energy defending Burning Mab, and the Burners, in various SFGate comment threads I feel like I should at least go up there to see what's going on for myself.

We start planning now (gee, where have I said that before?) and make a list of things that need to get taken care of and do them in a staged, orderly manner.

Do you really think we'll need 5 tons of cargo hauling? I'd think renting a F-250 would suffice. However, if the group you camp with want to haul everything up in one vehicle you can rent a 4300DT, and I'd be happy to drive.

I'll just need to get an IISS uniform put together.

Okay, lemme hook you up in a few places to get started:

  • Apokiliptika - the parent camp in our not-a-village-this-year-but-we-got-screwed-so-we're-filing-as-a-village-next-year. Kernul Killbuck got fed up with the sheer volume of Mad-Max/post-apocalyptic stuff he saw out here, so he started a themecamp set in the days immediately prior to the apocalypse. Have a nice doom!
  • Terminal City - the village forums. I absolutely don't expect you to sign up for the ePlaya (though you certainly could, if you wanted Yet Another TimeSink), but I do recommend getting an account on the village board, just to keep up with who's planning what first-hand, rather than getting it through my filters.
  • I've probably mentioned this to you before, but Hengehold Trucks expressly rents to Burners. I like the idea of a rental company that knows what it's getting into. I can see a 250 being plenty of space; you figure [livejournal.com profile] dafydd and I managed with his 150, and that had a bedbox taking up a good chunk of room. A super cargo van would also open up some options by giving us a comparatively storm-proof place to sleep at night.

I'll talk to my boss about possibly bringing you on at DMV next year; as I think I've mentioned in the past, we don't normally bring in first-year Burners, but I can make a good case for you Getting It. Because I absolutely understand now where dafydd was coming from when he first brought me out; this is a job for me, and while I don't think I'd need to be as concerned with you finding things to do on your own as he was with me, it'd be nice to actually have you working my shifts. (Besides, they feed us. *grin*)

We'll talk more about this once I'm back.
