Remember my little encounter with the entitlement queen on light rail?

In a discussion on [livejournal.com profile] stupid_free about how we act towards towards strangers, I linked to that as an example of how I counter rudeness with rudeness.

I evidently set off a member of the "OMYGHOD, White people can't be oppressed!" crowd.

Kind of amusing, and please reply to her little rant she she knows just what kind of humorless cocksucker I really am.

I believe that Winston Churchill's speeches were primarily pre-written. I believe that most of Oscar Wilde's impromptu wit was brief, and the rest of it he sat down and worked hard to write. I don't have much experience with Dorothy Parker, but i'll bet she's much the same. Even if i'm wrong about all three of them, the fact that you freely compare yourself to them is just... wow.

Oh, for fucks sake.

Winston Churchill was renowned for his ability to speak off the cuff. Yes, his speeches were prewritten, but learn a little about the man! Same for Wilde and Parker.

And I did not compare myself to them! I pointed out that if you refuse to believe that I can come up with something witty off the cuff, does that mean that you also deny that other people can do it too?

Sorry, I was wrong about those great men and women. Oops. Either way, that's the difference: they were great men and women. I see no proof that you're any more than a smart and funny man. Saying "you don't believe i can do it, do you not believe they can do it?" is comparing yourself to them. It's inherent in the statement.

I'm sorry that i'm kind of being a jerk about all this. I just found myself needlessly annoyed by your apparent inability to see why people don't believe you said it and insistence that the doubters needed to prove it. I'll stop now, and let you be.
