Remember my little encounter with the entitlement queen on light rail?

In a discussion on [livejournal.com profile] stupid_free about how we act towards towards strangers, I linked to that as an example of how I counter rudeness with rudeness.

I evidently set off a member of the "OMYGHOD, White people can't be oppressed!" crowd.

Kind of amusing, and please reply to her little rant she she knows just what kind of humorless cocksucker I really am.

My, that thread is getting fun!

I replied, I am having a wonderful time reading other people's comments, and watching her getting ripped a new asshole.

BTW, since when are you humorless?
(just kidding!)

Faux Irish huh?

BTW, picked up GURPS: IW today. If you ever make it up here, I'll bring it along for autographing, along with Ground Forces

One thing I am learning about stupid free i8s that actually reading posts is not really required. The "one" I mentioned was [livejournal.com profile] zombiesmut, who chose to rage all over my journal, call me names, and wish me an early death.

The replies to my post in the groups seem to consist of three categories:

1. People who refuse to believe I actually said this.

2. People who wouldn't know a sarcastic comment if it came up, introduced itself, and gave a short presentation on Sarcastic Comments: How To Recognize Them.

3. People who seem to grok that there is more to historical opression than OMG American slavery.

Now, I dislike being caled a liar, especially by a bunch of whinging nobodies. If you are in that crowd, either show proof of that claim or keep your peace.
From: [identity profile] tomecatti.livejournal.com
In matters on which doubt is cast, proof lies on the claimant. Or, in simpler terms, it's up to you to prove that you said it.

While there is more to historical oppression than American slavery, it is the one that is most relevant in america. Putting aside the apparent fact that you were joking-which i believe about 85%-they are right about the non-comparison of Black Slavery in America to Irish Hate-Wank in the UK to those who live in America.

Lacking a timestamped video and signed affidavits from everyone on the train (most of whom probably didn't see/hear/or care about what was happening) I can't.

I do not lie. If I want to lie, I write fiction (and not Mary Sue shit.)
From: [identity profile] tomecatti.livejournal.com
And by the same token, no one can prove that you didn't. You can't keep calling on people to prove that you didn't when you can't prove that you did. It puts the burden of proof on the wrong person/group. We who don't believe it actually happened use our experiences with people to be unable to believe that anyone real can be that witty that quickly. A lot couldn't believe the "I'm Black" part, but i'm just not sure about that one. Can you honestly say that you didn't embellish what you said just a little? That's much harder to believe than you having said any of it in the first place.

Everyone lies; don't you watch House?
From: [identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com
No. I don't watch much TV beyond news, Discovery Channel, and baseball. I find most of it to be crap. Being a veteran of extensive serious medical problems makes my views on medical shows a bit skewed. The one time I did see House, I wanted to kill him. I despise doctors like that. My oncologist and I would talk about the 49ers, local events, and life before getting down to business. That made me feel like more than "the Hodgkin's in bed 12-B."

I wrote exactly what I said. Every single word. Do you also believe the Winston Churchill, Dorothy Parker, and Oscar Wilde were fictional? I don't know how old you are, but I've been doing debate, impromptu speaking, public events where I have to speak off the cuff, and the like since 1981.
From: [identity profile] tomecatti.livejournal.com
I believe that Winston Churchill's speeches were primarily pre-written. I believe that most of Oscar Wilde's impromptu wit was brief, and the rest of it he sat down and worked hard to write. I don't have much experience with Dorothy Parker, but i'll bet she's much the same. Even if i'm wrong about all three of them, the fact that you freely compare yourself to them is just... wow.
From: [identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com
Oh, for fucks sake.

Winston Churchill was renowned for his ability to speak off the cuff. Yes, his speeches were prewritten, but learn a little about the man! Same for Wilde and Parker.

And I did not compare myself to them! I pointed out that if you refuse to believe that I can come up with something witty off the cuff, does that mean that you also deny that other people can do it too?
From: [identity profile] tomecatti.livejournal.com
Sorry, I was wrong about those great men and women. Oops. Either way, that's the difference: they were great men and women. I see no proof that you're any more than a smart and funny man. Saying "you don't believe i can do it, do you not believe they can do it?" is comparing yourself to them. It's inherent in the statement.

I'm sorry that i'm kind of being a jerk about all this. I just found myself needlessly annoyed by your apparent inability to see why people don't believe you said it and insistence that the doubters needed to prove it. I'll stop now, and let you be.

Hi again. I stopped in here to read my gf your post about the black chick (she says she wants to go hug you for that).

I can't stand the "white people can't be oppressed" crap. As if we all just have it made, as if we all havesome sort of privilidge. I wonder then, where is mine.
Good on you for sticking to your guns. You are quickly becomming one of my favorite LJ people.
