Comment and ask me for a letter. Then go and open your iTunes (or whatever player you use on your computer). Look at the songs that begin with the letter I gave you and pick ten. Post the titles and tell us why you chose them.
filkerdave cast Geas on me, and now I must do "D" for d10, d20, etc. Just for fun, I'll add a block of lyrics from the song.
1. Dance in the Circle - Heather Alexander. This is one of the few filk songs that I'm comfortable singing in public, since it has a good part for a deep-voiced foghorn like me.
2. Deal - The Grateful Dead. This was always one of my favorite first-set closers.. rocking, fast, and fun. Jerry obviously loved playing it.
3. Desolation Row - Bob Dylan. I love story-telling songs, and no one is better at that than Mr. Dylan. This song is a fantastic mix of images and characters from every source you can imagine.
4. Detroit Rock City - KISS. C'mon, who wasn't a member of the KISS Army back in the day?
5. Diamonds & Rust - Judas Priest. Yes, it's a cover of the Joan Baez tune. I love it because it is a departure from the usual Priest fare, and it shows Halford's range.
(EDIT: Changed "Fleetwood Mac" to "Joan Baez". Oops.)
6. Divine Irregularity - Tom Smith. One of my all-time favorite gaming filks. I swear, I've been in that party.
7. Domino - Genesis. Post Gabriel and Hackett Genesis may not have been the masters of prog rock, but they did do some great tunes. This version is from Live: The Way We Walk. Very nice.
8. Don't Tread On Me - Metallica. As good a summation of my views on politics, religion, and freedom as you'll ever get.
9. Dr. Who on Holiday - Dean Gray. Before American Edit I thought mash-ups were a regional expression for auto accidents. Wow. Mixing Green Day's Holiday with Doctoring the TARDIS, the actual Dr. Who theme, clips from the show, and a speech by Bush? Genius! The bit of Aerosmith at the end was just gravy.
(No point in entering the lyrics)
10. Drive - The Cars. I was never a huge Cars fan, but this song always struck a chord with me. I love the lyrics and the whole feel of the thing. It also had one of the best videos of all time

1. Dance in the Circle - Heather Alexander. This is one of the few filk songs that I'm comfortable singing in public, since it has a good part for a deep-voiced foghorn like me.
So please, come, join, dance in the circle
The voices will make you heart yearn
To please, come, join, dance in the circle
But know that you'll never return
2. Deal - The Grateful Dead. This was always one of my favorite first-set closers.. rocking, fast, and fun. Jerry obviously loved playing it.
Since it costs a lot to win, and even more to lose,
You and me bound to spend some time wondrin' what to choose.
Goes to show, you don't ever know,
Watch each card you play and play it slow,
Wait until that deal come round,
Don't you let that deal go down, no, no.
3. Desolation Row - Bob Dylan. I love story-telling songs, and no one is better at that than Mr. Dylan. This song is a fantastic mix of images and characters from every source you can imagine.
Now at midnight all the agents
And the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do
Then they bring them to the factory
Where the heart-attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders
And then the kerosene
Is brought down from the castles
By insurance men who go
Check to see that nobody is escaping
To Desolation Row
4. Detroit Rock City - KISS. C'mon, who wasn't a member of the KISS Army back in the day?
Movin' fast, doin' 95
Hit top speed but I'm still movin' much too slow
I feel so good, I'm so alive
I hear my song playin' on the radio
It goes
Get up
Everybody's gonna move their feet
Get down
Everybody's gonna leave their seat
5. Diamonds & Rust - Judas Priest. Yes, it's a cover of the Joan Baez tune. I love it because it is a departure from the usual Priest fare, and it shows Halford's range.
Now I see you standing with brown leaves all around and snow in your hair
Now we're smiling out the window of the crummy hotel over Washington Square
Our breath comes in white clouds, mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me we both could've died then and there
(EDIT: Changed "Fleetwood Mac" to "Joan Baez". Oops.)
6. Divine Irregularity - Tom Smith. One of my all-time favorite gaming filks. I swear, I've been in that party.
Now, Biff the Drunken Druid was the party's magic power.
He spent his days in a bourbon haze through every waking hour,
And, for Delphine's affections, fought with Varicose the Vain,
A pretty-boy elf with a damn big axe and a thing for causing pain.
7. Domino - Genesis. Post Gabriel and Hackett Genesis may not have been the masters of prog rock, but they did do some great tunes. This version is from Live: The Way We Walk. Very nice.
The grey of evening fills the room,
Theres no need to look outside,
To see or feel the rain.
Then I reach across to touch her,
But I know that shes not there.
Rain keeps running down the window pane.
Time is running out for me.
8. Don't Tread On Me - Metallica. As good a summation of my views on politics, religion, and freedom as you'll ever get.
so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...
don't tread on me

10. Drive - The Cars. I was never a huge Cars fan, but this song always struck a chord with me. I love the lyrics and the whole feel of the thing. It also had one of the best videos of all time
Who's gonna tell you when
Its too late
Who's gonna tell you things
Aren't so great.
You cant go on, thinkin'
Nothing's wrong, but bye,
Who's gonna drive you home
Tonight?
