I've been meaning to do a write up of the events of the past week, and kept putting it off. Well, since I need to work on my typing speed anyway..

Last Saturday: The highlight of the day was the DaVinci's Notebook concert. [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and [livejournal.com profile] clairaide have already mentioned this in their journals, so I'll just say that dinner was wonderful, and we all enjoyed the show. Getting out of the house is a good thing.

Sunday I wasn't up for pride; so I stayed home and puttered around and watched a bit of it on television. That evening we went to see Lilio & Stich, which is a wonderful movie, and fairly good science-fiction. We ended up at a fairly late showing, which meant there were very few small kids in the theater.

Somewhere in here, I picked up the new Harry Turtledove book, The Center Can Not Hold, which was read in two sittings. Great book.

Wednsday: The Who at Shoreline. We met [livejournal.com profile] dafydd at his office, ate Subway, then walked over to the concert. David had arranged to met someone who was going to buy Rose's ticket (she couldn't join us, sadly enough) but the guy never showed. So he miracled someone standing nearby.

The show was AWESOME! Words cannot describe the energy that Pete Townshend puts out on stage. He is one of the top five guitarists of all time in my book. Kirsten put up a set list in her journal. Some of the songs were a bit of a surprise, like Sea & Sand and Relay. Not that I was complaining. Sore and battered from over two hours of dancing and screaming out heads off, we drove home.

Thursday I'm 36! Jesus Christ, how did this happen? We were supposed to meet [livejournal.com profile] the_ogre, [livejournal.com profile] rmjwell and a couple of other folks downtown to see The Powerpuff Girls Movie. Fat chance of us moving that early. So we wandered down later and caught up with them in the food court. I found a steak sandwhich place which starts out with the basics: bread and meat. If you want more, they are happy to add it.

After some discussion, and much food, we went to see The Bourne Identity. Good movie, great car chase, well worth seeing. Not quite as good as the book, but when is it ever? After the film, about half the group took a tentative round of the arcade, where I learned I really am that old, since I didn't recognized a single game there. We went outside and hung out in Yerba Buena Gardens instead; where we discussed sniping angles.

Most of the group wanted to go see the fireworks, but Rose and I were just peopled out. So we went home, with Rose settling in her room to compute while I watched a lackluster Boston Pops concert. Went to bed around 2200... us old folks need our rest, y'know.

Friday Began early, with Kirsten getting home around 0040.. and she was supposed to go to work! The phrase we are looking for is "ha!" Most of the day passed quietly, and at 1630 we headed out for the traditional Birthday bash at my mom's place. [livejournal.com profile] isomeme had come up from LA with our niece, and my sister (with whom I share a July 4th birthday) was going to be there with her SO. So a big crowd in my mom's little condo. Great conversation, excellent tacos. But there was one little problem.

My mother is notorious for her experiments in cooking. The last thing any of us want to hear is "I'm trying something different." This year she committed heresy! She not only experimented on my birthday cake, she only made one! The last time that was tried was 30 years ago! The cake was fairly good, but I still disapprove of the single-cake theory. We headed home, dropping Rose at [livejournal.com profile] sinboy and [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou's place, and bringing Craig (aka [livejournal.com profile] isomeme) to his hotel.

Which brings up to today. Today, I'm just chilling, doing a little cleaning, and waiting for Craig to come over. A very good week.

Birthday haul: A gorgeous glass penguin, a book about the experiences of the cable car workers, two cds: The Who, The Ultimate Collection and Thunderfingers: John Entwistle's Greatest Hits, $36 in cash and gift cards for Borders and Barnes & Noble totaling $45. I get the feeling I'm hard to shop fo
