With typical suddenness we've gone from the pleasant days of Spring into the baking oven of a Bay Area summer. Except of course in the city, where the fog has returned to torment the tourists.

Busy week at work. Wednesday I got to ride an Arlen Ness original while a forklift was repaired. I've gotten to know the owner of the place I was dropping, and we'd talked bikes before. I was drooling and he offered me the keys for a ride around the block. Since the bike cost about 65 grand, I'm really happy I didn't crash. But, oh baby!!

Thursday just pissed me off.

Along with deliveries, I pick up product from our regular suppliers. These pick ups can be divided into three loose categories.

1. Special orders we make for a client

2. Small orders from regular suppliers

3. Overflow that is needed ASAP or couldn't fit on the supplier's truck.

Thursday, I pull up to one of my regular stops with three PO's to pick up. There was some confusion about the orders (they just switched to a new inventory control system, and it is driving them nuts). While I was waiting, one of their office people kept telling me that I had to load all these additional pallets that we were evidently "screaming for."

Problem is that when I finally got the order numbers, they weren't on my list. And checking with the office I find that we aren't expecting these six pallets (all of which have several hundred pounds of iron on them) until next Tuesday.. on their truck. I was told that I could take the pallets, but that I had another "large" pickup further on.

I left them behind, and loaded the two pallets I was supposed to get. This turned out to be a good decision. I get to my next pickup and my jaw drops. Three pallets. The first two weight 1.25 tons each. The last about half that. At this point I'm really worrying about both my weight limit and available deck space. We finally figure out that if we take off the box I use for storage we can get all the pallets on. To say my truck was riding lower once loaded is an understatement. I had to pass through a weigh station and was a whopping 20lbs under my allowed Gross Vehicle Weight. I was honestly worried that a bump in the road would blow a tire.

Made it back alright, and pretty much demanded help offloading. I was that frazzled.

Other than that, not much to report. Kiri and I had a lovely time at her birthday dinner, and other than getting my bike fixed (yeah) I don't have much on the platter for the weekend.

Hon, I don't know what you're talking about fog. I've been boiling for the last 5 days! Of course, I've been sick as a dog, but it's still been HOT HOT HOT!
