Second to last episode of Firefly, the crew goes to a postal depot to pick up a few months worth of mail. Jayne (the sociopathic mercenary) get this awful knitted hat from his mom... and wears it for the next two episodes. Firefly fans love the things.
On the series DVDs, there's even a clip of Adam Baldwin (who played Jayne) singing "The Hero of Canton" while wearing the Hat.
Would you wear one that didn't make your head look like a mutant piece of candy corn? ;-) I actually have some scrap yarn (in shades of purple, natch) left over from an afghan I made jilesa several years ago; I'm planning to make myself a Jayne-style hat with it. If there's a color family from which you'd welcome an earflap hat, I'd be happy to make you (both) one.
