Curse this sense of civil responsibility!

I'm on jury duty this week, which means checking the website each night to see if I've drawn the short straw. I'm one of those sad people who actually accepts that jury duty is part of being a citizen, and doesn't automatically try to get out of it.
Doesn't mean I have to like the idea of giving up time at work for the princely sum of $15/day.
(WinAmp wins again.)

Date: 8 Nov 2005 10:22 (UTC)Now I know why you guys (Americans) complain so loud about the poor compensation for jury service. When I served here (NZ) a couple of months back, we got paid NZ$31 per half-day, plus 'reasonable' travel expenses, and a half-day meant any morning you were asked to show, even if you just sat round for half and hour and then got to go home because you weren't drawn.
Now $62 a day is crappy pay, but it's a lot better $15-20 a day.
