[livejournal.com profile] isomeme cast Greater Geas on me, so I must do this meme.

Meme-time: List 10 things that give you a moment of joy during the day, and tag 5 other people.

I don't tag people. They can do it if they want. Onto the list!

1. Breathing The simple joy of still being alive, ten years after finding myself in a desperate struggle to live is the best thing I have for this list. Sometimes I just want to shout "Motherfucker, I'm alive!" at the top of my lungs. Usually this urge hits me when I'm near nuns or people with lots of conservative stickers on their cars.

2. Going to work. Having a job you love is a blessing. Having one you love and turn out to be good at is even better. Yes, I come home exhausted most nights, but it's with a tired smile on my face.

3. Running Podzilla with kids (of any age) around. Kids love my truck and especially Podzilla. Podzilla is the hydraulic lift that comes off the truck like some sort of mechanical beast, stretching and extending. Watching the reaction of children (and certain adults) makes me smile.

4. Listening to my music. No matter where my mood is, putting my tunes on makes me very happy.

5. Being silly with Kiri. Punning, telling jokes, or playing with the critters when we should be asleep, getting the giggles with my wife fills me with happiness.

6. The first Coke of the morning. Ah, blessed caffeine!

7. Watching the hawks that live on our building. There are several red-tailed hawks that nest in our complex of warehouses and high-tech firms. We're close enough to some of the wetland preserves that they have great hunting. I could watch them all day.

8. Reading Doesn't matter what, really. Just absorbing information or a good story satisfies me on some deep level. We recently got a whole stack of the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader series off Freecycle, so I'm in heaven when it comes to trivia material.

9. Making someone laugh. I've been blessed with a good sense of comedic timing, so I use it to try to make someone laugh daily. Amazingly enough, they didn't approve of this at Cost Plus. One of the myriad reasons I not longer work there.

10. Arguing on Usenet. I know, it's about as useful as teaching pigs to sing; but I've found that slinging the mud on groups like alt.atheism and alt.conspiracy have sharpened my research skills.

regarding number 9: cost plus frowned on laughter at work? or their sense of humor wasn't up to your caliber?
that's sad.
i have people at my workplace that i can always share my humor with, especially my favorite: innuendo.
if love makes the world go round, laughter lubricates it and makes the whole ride smoother.

I would joke with customers. Nothing outrageous, but little bits of humor. They hated that, sinc evidently being a register monkey was deadly serious business.

Bloody hell, I'm glad to be out of that place.

DOOD! i get points on my call quality score if i joke with the customer. it is called RAPPORT. i am mandadted to do something to generate rapport with the customers on every call, even if it suggesting that they have a good day. but joking with the customers gets it every time.
remind me never to work retail.
