This morning I drove Kirsten to work, and then went to fill out the application I mentioned yesterday.

The place is Unique Towing, and after one wrong turn I found it easily enough. Nice place, clean and well lit without that "hi, we're a grungy business" vibe you sometimes get in this sort of industry. Very friendly receptionist handed me an application, which i filled out.

I gave the completed app and my resume to someone who I assumed to be a sort of under-manager. He looked it over, and told me he was going to check to see if the boss could talk to me. When I mentioned I wasn't really dressed from an interview, he pointed to his own clothes (white t-shirt, ragged jeans) and said "do we look like we wear ties around here?"

The boss wasn't available, but the person who took my paperwork sat down with me for about ten minutes. He seemed impressed with my experience with CAD (computer-aided dispatch) systems, as well as the volume of work I handled at SuperShuttle. I also scored points with my views on customer service. He told me that I should expect a call back for a more formal interview soon.

Let's hope. Because Kirsten and I are near the end of the financial rope. What we really need is about two grand to pay off the back rent and get next month's taken care of. The bitch of the matter is we make enough money, we just got caught up in a cycle of not having the money at the right time.

*sigh* If only selling kidneys were legal...

In happier thoughts, I received two early b-day presents.. the VW shirt I mentioned a few days ago from [livejournal.com profile] murphymom and the second one is rather amusing.

Kiri and I both read Freecycle.org, it's a great place to get rid of junk, and pick up treasures. Yesterday, I saw this listing:

[sanjosefreecycle] OFFER;Giants starters jacket
This is light weight San Francisco , Giants, Starters, Jacket. It says its XL but it fits like a Medium. I am a 9 nine in Jeans ad it fits me perfectly. It has a little tear in the inside bottom of jacket that can sew together at the seam. But doesn't show when you wear it. No Stains, and looks clean. Made out of parachute material. Doesn't smell like smoke. Embroidiered patch in front with Zipper, and Embroidered San Fracisco Giants on back.

Needless to say, I pounced, and sent a claim two minutes after the original posting. But I didn't get it. Bummed, I texted Kirsten, asking if she was the one who grabbed the jacket. She did, and I got a very cool lightweight windbreaker. This would be perfect for day games.

Congrats on the jacket!

I am weirded out by the mention that it "Doesn't smell like smoke."

I mean does one assume that it does unless mentioned?

I gather that's a common problem with Freecycled clothing.
