OK, my first girlfriend, her family raised chihuahuas. Freaking overgrown rats with a caffeine addiction. There's a reason why I started wearing motorcycle boots in high school! Almost every single day I'd go over to Norma's house, and every single time I'd me attacked by a mob of twitching, yipping dogs. Damn things were too dumb to realize that I was the same guy who had come over at the same time every day for the last year.

I think that's the problem. Little dogs have the cranial spaces normally allocated to hummingbirds, so all they can do is operate three basic commands:

1. Twitch (default setting)

2. Yip uncontrollably (standard reaction to any stimuli)

3. Bite (anything that comes near)

They're frankly too stupid to realize that the thing they are yipping at outmasses them by roughly 200 times. Their tiny little rodent brains can't conceive of the idea that were I to step on them, it would lights out rat dog. I'll I'd have to do is hose off my boot.

Intelligent Design/Creationism

Oh, boy...

Folks, this is just religion poorly wrapped in what the ID proponants claim is science. But it isn't. Science is based on the scientific method. Creationism starts with an answer and then cherry picks facts to support their view. Another favorite tactic is to twist the meaning of scientific terms like "theory." We have a Theory of Evolution because we aren't sure exactly what all the causes of evolution are, or how some of the processes work. That doesn't mean evolution isn't a fact! Gravity is also a theory, because we have no idea why masses attract each other, or how they do it. Doesn't mean you can step off the Bank of America building and not accelerate downwards at 10m/sec^2.

The further dishonesty of the ID proponants comes when you read what they want taught. It's the Judeo-Christian creation story with the names changed. What if I believe that 2 beings created the universe together? What if I believe that it was a committee of beings? Nope. No room at the table for anyone proposing any language other than that mentioning a single creator.

What really pisses me off about these idiots is the willful ignorance they show. I debate these loons all the time on alt.atheism (which gets significant cross-traffic from talk.origins) and they not only refuse to learn science, they are proud of that ignorance! When confronted by facts, they always turn to personal attacks.

The depths these Christian Taliban agents will go to amazes me. Stealth candidates to take over school boards. They've set up a fake accreditation system to rubber stamp their "research papers" (my favorite is the guy who writes, publishes, and writes his own peer reviews under pen names.. and admits it!) and set up diploma mills so the creationists can claim to have piles of PhDs on their side. (I ordered a PhD from one of them a while back. According to the Creation Research Institute, I have a PhD in Geology. Without writing a single word or attending a single class.)

The ID movement is just one tentacle of an extreme-right wing Christian assault on modern America. We need to mobilize and smack them down whenever they pop up.

On a different theme of rantage altogether, displacement tons.

Hmmmm....

Sorry, not something I can really rant about. Unless you want to talk about how they changed from edition to edition when it came to deckplans, and the inability of anyone to draw a set of plans that actually matched the listed displacement of the ship..

My boys are really pissing me off.

OK, we don't have Bonds. Boo-fucking-hoo. He's one guy on the 25-man roster. Deal. I'm actually quite pleased at the job Pedro Feliz has been doing in left field. While he doesn't have Bonds' power, he can at least make plays that require a little running. Hitting .299 with an OBP of .341 is decent, but could improve.

For me, the biggest disapointment has be Moises Alou. Remember when he was going to be the man to protect Bonds? Ha! After showing up and immediately going on the DL, he's managed a pathetic .158 average! Our pitchers are hitting better than our alleged power guy! His entire attitude reeks of someone who really doesn't give a damn about the team. I think he was a mistake. I really would have preferred to see J.D. Drew out there.

Then we have out pitching. This part really puzzles me. On paper, we have a great starting rotation. But Reuter has been pathetic (and I'm a huge Woody fan) and everyone else has just seemed off. Which means that our bullpen has been getting used hard early in the season. We saw what that did last year. We need the starters to start getting seven innings out of each start. And get some runs in guys! Having Benitiz is pointless if we never have a lead going into the 9th!

There are some bright spots. Vizquel is everything he's advertised to be, and I think he's doing a great job anchoring our infield. Alfonzo is having a banner year both at third base and at the plate. Snow is hitting well. The pieces are there, but we need to make them fit.

We also have to stop waiting for Bonds to come back. Figure out how to win now. Before it's too late.
