The other day, I worked a full nine-hour shift. During my lunch, I ran over the the 76 station to grab some chips to go with my sandwich. This is the same station I applied at, remember?

Well, I didn't get the job, obviously, but talking to the guy working the register (who used to be the grave shift guy) I learned that both he and the manager recommended that I be hired! The frickking owner sat on his ass for weeks before hiring some loser. Who has already blown off two shifts. The clerk practically begged me to apply again.

Holy fuck, what does it take? I live down the block from the station, work across the street (the owner could have walked over and talked to all my coworkers for references), applied the day the Help Wanted sign went up.. and as I pointed out, the interview was fantastic! So this has me mystified.

convince the guys to complain to the owner? "You know, if you'd hired the guy *we* said, this wouldn't have happened."

I think it's the universe's way of telling you that you do not want to work for that guy.

Maybe the guy thinks you're TOO good, and that you'll leave the minute something better comes up...I don't know - I've never been able to figure out why I've been hired at some jobs and not hired at others....

Or that you know your rights and could call Cal-OSHA on his butt, or would report unfixable safety hazards to the Fire Department.
