Tell me what you think of that after you've gotten through it? It's one I keep hearing about and I'd like to know more. :)

Ask [livejournal.com profile] malohin about it. He's my sweetie, and used to own a comics & games store called "Planet 10" here in San Jose, CA. He also managed both "The Shire" and "Rivendell" in St. Louis, MO before that. He likes doing reviews for clients of the various gaming books received, and he's excellent at covering the mathematical & mechanical balance of a game. He can give you and [livejournal.com profile] gridlore a good, fair review of it now, if you both want.

So far, I'm loving it. Still the same old Hero system, but very clean and well written. Some old conflicts fixed, some redefinitions made, and a few neat additions. My favorite being the Power Advantage "Megascale" which allows for things like telepaths who can search the globe, Earth-destroying lunar lasers, and affordable super-sonic runnung.

Cool. But I thought you were a GURPS devotee?

I'm a Champions fan from wayyyyyyyyy back. I've never liked Hero for anything other than superhero gaming, but in that genre it excells.

For me, as long as the system is playable, and handles combat well, I'll play it.

Which HERO does, albeit more slowly than some systems. I've found that, once you're used to HERO, it's just as fast to resolve an individual attack as other systems, but the comfort curve is pretty steep.

HERO handles superheroics very well, but GURPS is the better "universal" system. I never liked HERO for fantasy; IMO, there's a bias against lethal attacks built into the HERO system that hamstrings fantasy characters somewhat.

5E goes a long way to addressing a lot of the problems with the earlier editions especially with regards to vehicle rules. and Hero Designer 2 is one hell of a nice character generator program... I use it just about daily.

and yes you can play traveller in the hero system, it doesnt work that badly for some things

Doug... get thee to the Hero system boards, it would be nice to have another traveller person there

if you want to see some of what we've done as far as Hero/Traveller conversions check this site
http://www.starherofandom.com/

there are quite extensive conversion rules for several game systems along with traveller stuff.

I post to the Hero boards as shadowcat1313
and if you need any help with anything let me know

I haven't gotten to take a look at too much of the Star Hero stuff. How is it? From what I've seen it's a bit TOO toolkitty for me, and the Terran Empire setting doesn't turn my crank.

its toolkitty, but being a major gearhead to begin with, I like it
I dont care that much for the Terran Empire setting either...
and the stock ship designs are a little disapointing

too much reliance on antimatter missiles, no spinal mounts, starship caliber plasma weapons with ranges that are mediocre at best. really munchkiny defensewise too... between armor and shields some of the designs have nigh on 100 defense. also they use variable power pools for sensors and EW among other things... which is something I've never agreed with a bit

Alas, I traded mine in to the local game store for credit, I can't get anyone here to play in any Super's game of any sort.

Ohh, I'm so glad you're happy! I apologize for being so lax and lazy about getting it out to you. Enjoy!!!
