Since a couple of people have asked...

A brief history of my life with Traveller.
1977 - Craig comes home from a gaming con with the original Little Black Books. We immediately start playing. The first game is based on Niven's Known space series, and I play Beowulf Schaefer. I've had a soft-spot in my heart for merchant campaigns ever since.
1978-84. Total Traveller Goober. I can name more Emperors than Presidents. When I enlist in the Army for four years, I am accused of trying to live out a Traveller adventure.
1985. While in the Army, I discover the Grateful Dead and acid. Gaming takes a back burner for a while.
A big jump to
1995. I'm diagnosed with cancer. While contemplating dying before I'm 30, I consider the things I've never done. One of those is writing for Traveller. So I resolve to begin writing if I live.
1996. I live, so I start writing.
OK, now the bibliography.
Imperial Squadrons Timothy Brown, Stuart Dollar and Joseph Walsh. Imperium Games 1997. Contributed four starship designs. The actual designs were ripped to shreds by the assholes at Imperium Games, but the descriptions came through all right. I did this as a favor, and never expected payment.
Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society, #26 Mini-adventure Strike! putting the characters in the middle of a labor action at a major starport. Almost hurts to read at this point. This came out at almost at the same time as Imperial Squadrons. I was supposed to get paid for this piece, but never was.
101 Religions Edited by Timothy Collinson, British Isles Traveller Support, 1998.
Sent in a few religions for this installment in the excellent 101 series. This was another one I did gratis, BITS is more fan than pro, though you'd never tell from their products.
At Close Quarters Douglas Berry and James Lindsay, BITS, 1999. My first real game! This is an expanded combat system for any version of Traveller, although it was designed to work best with T4. James and I wrote the entire thing over the net.. we've never met! This book has received some excellent reviews, and started the whole "Penguin Boy" thing... but that's another story.
GURPS Traveller: Ground Forces Douglas Berry, Steve Jackson Games, 2000. The big one! 96,000 words on the armed forces of the Traveller universe. It was so much fun to write on two subjects that I love, and having the assistance of experienced game designers like David Pulver (who wrote the grav vehicle design sequence) really helped. I swear to God, holding that book in my hands and seeing my name on the cover was the most surreal moment in my life.
So, what's next? I'm currently writing GURPS Traveller: Outrim Void, a sector book for the Trojan Reach sector. After that, I'm looking at the "Laws and Lawbreakers book. There are also a couple of non-Traveller titles I'm interested in.
My article idea file is filled too bursting.. I really should do something about them. What I really need is a laptop. Anybody know where I could get a laptop running Win 98 and Word 2000 cheap?

My "How We Met" Story...and yes, it is about Traveller....
Date: 6 Apr 2002 02:59 (UTC)You know Draig (Mike) right?
Well, our "How We Met" story has a little bit to do about Traveller...we met at a convention where he was running a Traveller game or two. :) Ask him for more details, including me losing my GURPS IOU book and the fun that ensued...
I enjoy the game and it is something I would like to get back to...maybe when this child is born. I miss it.
Thinking of running anything online? Need players?

Date: 6 Apr 2002 06:43 (UTC)Gah, let me finsijh this book, then I can actually think about something other than planetary desnities and Floriani politics.
Have I mentioned lately...
As far as a laptop...
Date: 2 May 2002 09:57 (UTC)Have you tried E-Bay? That's where I got mine. If you just want to be able to process verbiage on it, you don't need much in terms of either processor or RAM. It can't hurt to poke around.
