After a 23-year absence, baseball's All-Star Game will return to San Francisco in 2007, a high-ranking major-league official told The Chronicle on Tuesday.
"They got it. It's done," the official said in confirming the Giants will host their first All-Star Game since July 10, 1984. The National League beat the American League 3-1 at Candlestick Park that night, thanks to homers by Gary Carter and Dale Murphy and seven innings of shutout relief from Fernando Valenzuela, Dwight Gooden in his All-Star debut, Mario Soto and Goose Gossage.
The official announcement will come after the World Series, with Commissioner Bud Selig likely to attend a news conference in San Francisco alongside Giants owner Peter Magowan, who declined to comment Tuesday.
All frigging right!!
