OK, so The 4400 ended tonight. I was quite impressed.

So, the 4400 were kidnapped from the future. Evidently, something happens, starting now, that leads to the extinction of mankind. But from what we learned, there is no one big cause. So it's not like they could send someone back to kill Sarah Conner.

Instead, the 4400 were taken, altered to give them their abilities, and returned in the best "nail" mission in a time travel story in a long time. The term nail mission comes from the old saw, "For want of a nail, the shoe was lost, for want of shoe, the horse was lost..." etc. The idea is not to assassinate Hitler, but keep one set of great-great-grandparents from ever meeting by something as innocuous as ordering an extra beer in the gasthaus, keeping the barmaid and extra few minutes, so she doesn't meet a man on the way home...

So the actions of the super-powered park vigilante, while only lasting a week, inspired a neighborhood watch to clean up the neighborhood. The killer might have killed women who would have given birth to people who would either figure in the disaster (or influence someone who would affect the future), etc, etc,.

The mystery of Kyle and Shawn was resolved as well. I'm not sure how much I buy what happened, but using Kyle as a conduit for the explanation was the only way to wrap this thing up nicely.. and they still cut it off!

Nice concept.

The story ends with one hell of a series hook. Can't wait to see if they follow up. USA Network has done some good work on dramatic series with things like The Dead Zone and Monk.

I'm still thinking about doing it as a game. I might even use their explanation.

I gotta say I was impressed and didn't see this take on things coming. Now I just hope it does get picked up for more episodes.
