I've had piles of Turtledove to read!

First, I grabbed Into the Darkness, the first book in a fantasy series that follows a world war on a magic-rich world. Dragon riders drop explosive eggs, infantryman carry fire-spewing rods, and triceratops-like behemoths mount heavier magic weapons. A good read, filled with interesting characters, backrounds, and lots of juicy plots.

But that fell by the wayside earlier this week. To escape the noise of repairs being done on the downstairs apartment, Kiri and I headed to the mall. On the way, I wondered if there might be a new Turtledove out. I had no real reason to think there would be, of course, but when it turned out we weren't in time for any movies, we wandered down to Borders.. and there it was...

Settling Accounts: Return Engagement

Wow. The Second Great War has begun with the Confederate invasion of the United States under the command of General George S. Patton, CSA. All the characters (well, the ones who are still alive) from the previous two trilogies are back. This is some amazing stuff. I finished it today, and am tempted to drive to LA and make Dr. Turtledove write faster.

Oh, well.. there are at least five other books in the World at War series to keep me happy until the next book in the CSA series comes out.

I'm in the midst of the last World at War book. It's quite good.

In the Presence of Mine Enemies is probably the best "The Nazis won WWII 50 years ago" books I've ever read.

I meant to ask you what you thought of that book. I was quite impressed by how he handled the whole thing.
