One of our local TV stations here in LA is trumpeting that they now have a Doppler weather radar, going on and on about how much better their storm forecasting will be with this ultra-high-tech goodie. Only two problems:
(1) Stations in the Midwest and Southeast have had Dopplers for most of a decade, and
(2) WE HAVE NO WEATHER HERE!
No weather a Midwesterner would notice, that is. A Doppler radar is for figuring out where that F3 twister is going to touch down, not for tracking light coastal drizzle and figuring out it'll hit Malibu five minutes ahead of Venice Beach. Installing Doppler radar in LA is like digging a tiger pit trap in London.
What I picture is that some second-tier station in Indiana upgraded their system, and our local outfit bought the old gear on EBay.
