My sister got married yesterday, and it was quite an event. Sadly, most of the pictures at the reception didn't come out (the flash was being wonky) but we got a few good ones.

[livejournal.com profile] isomeme officiated, and did a wonderful job. I was asked to read a piece, and the reception was positive.

The Art Of A Good Marriage - Wilferd Arlan Peterson

The little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is never taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
it should continue through all the years.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

Of course there were a few picture taken...

Men in Black

Mr. [livejournal.com profile] isomeme. Mr. [livejournal.com profile] gridlore. We are the Men in Black.

We had a wonderful time. Saw some cousins for the first time in almost 25 years! Drank passable champagne, and might get an autographed baseball out of the deal.

Actually, you need a black or navy blue tie for a *proper* "men in black" look.

But that will be an easy bit of accessorization for a con.

Pity.

And it occurs to me that with your hair color and that beard of yours, you could try doing the "Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm a gentleman of wealth and taste." bit. :-)

What we decided after seeing the looks we got while walking from the parking area to the place where the photos were being taken was the theme for our next con party.

The Church of Eris and the Later Day Discordians Party.

The hosts will be in suits, with name badges, and give out photocopied editions of the Principia Discordia (http://www.ology.org/principia/). The fliers will say

We're not coming to your door, you're coming to ours.
