Roger "Rocket" Clemens has signed with the Houston Astros.

He's in the National League.

Where he has to bat. Every game.

Which means his days of hitting batters and hiding behind the Designated Hitter are over!

A decade and a half of payback is coming to Roger the Big Fat Target. It's not going to be pretty. The Giants open in Houston, and if you think we've forgotten aboutn him drilling Bonds, you're wrong.

I so look forward to Clemens' first trip to Florida....

OTOH, Redbirds fans will likely give him quite the ovation the first time he takes the mound in St. Louis. We'll wait until his first pitch to let him know that we hold him in the same high regard as the rest of his new team.... :-P

WRT the Barry Bonds thing, it is a pity that Clemens didn't sign with the Padres or, better yet, the Dodgers . Had he done so, Doug's Giants would have had more shots at the guy. And cowardly AL pitchers deserve plenty of shots when they move to the Senior Circuit.

On the gripping hand, were I a voting sportswriter, I would likely vote for Clemens' entry into the Hall of Fame no later than his second year of eligibility.

Oh, and for the record:

I'm willing to go with the same friendly wager as last season. My money again says that the Redbirds will rule the roost, heading into the playoffs. Those Yankee castoffs might have done all right in the AL; let's see how they do in a real league.

Any takers?

You're on, Bird-boy. Giants will have the best record again.

I hadn't thought of that. I am giggling madly at the thought of Rocket swinging a bat. This will well and truly be his last season.
