The store closes at 2200. At 2130, two giggly women come in and begin shoppng.

At closing time, Shin announces that the store is in fact closed, and any remaning customers should go to check-out.

15 minutes later they finally came up. With a ton of stuff. So I begin ringing them up...

And they keep changing their minds! Asking for price checks, deciding not to take things I've already entered, gtting extra bottles of wine... it never ended!

Once they were gone. I had a whole 20 minutes to cash out and do my assigned areas of sprucing uf the shelves. I had to stay over about 15 minutes.

Welcome to the exciting world of dealing with the public. Remind me to tell you sometime about the time the entire Los Gatos High School football team, along with cheerleaders, parents, and other hangers-on, arrived at McDonald's literally as the manager was walking toward the doors to lock us up for the night.

Six years at Supershuttle, remember? I've done this before, even in retail. It was just the constant switching on things that really drove me nuts.

Oh, right -- somehow I don't think of that being in the same category, even though it clearly is.

So, how are you liking the new job overall, when customers don't muck it up? :)

It's a great place to work. Very good crew, management is easy to work with, and most of the customers are nice.

A friend is night manager at a MacDonalds. He tells of the time when 5 busloads of people arrived at a time when they only had 4 crew...

You're getting paid for time over your regular, right? I just found out I get extra break time if I work over the end of my shift.

Working closing is scheduled to 2300 (or tonight, 2330) to allow for us to count out, and take care of some of the basic housekeeping duties.

Interestingly, I came across this today, and it reminded me of your post:

Hee!

I printed that out, and will carefully change "library" to "Cost Plus" and tape it to the break room fridge.
