gridlore: Doug looking off camera with a grin (Coloring Book)
[personal profile] gridlore
Or whatever y'all are. I have 100 people on my "Friend of" list, and to be honest, I don't recognize many of the names! So I'm curious..

1. Who are you? You don't have to give full names, but if I know you in passing in real life, please remind me.

2. How did you find my journal? Did I give you a card? Saw the link in a post I made somewhere? Did I scrawl it on your back at a convention?

3. If necessary, what's our connection? Do we both play Traveller? Listen to metal?

If you know for a fact that I know you by both names (like, say I've been married to you for twelve and a half years..) That list is fairly small, so if in doubt, go ahead and make and entry.

1. Rob Wynne. I don't believe we've ever actually met.

2. You referenced it on rec.arts.sf.fandom.

3. You were one of the people I found consistantly interesting on rasff. I can no longer keep up with that group, but I can keep up with some folks here.

2) Probably off of your wife's LJ.

3) See #1. Add conventions. Stir.

1. I go by Kat in real life. I'm a Callahanian, and I've been over to your place twice when you lived in SF, both times to help [livejournal.com profile] rosefox move boxes. :) I was the one that lives in a Cal hat.

2. Hmmm, I don't recall when I decided to add you to my list, it was before the first time I met y'all, prolly 'cause of random friending, but this was way back in July or August of 2002.

3. Well, asides from the aforementioned Callahans connection, I also have a book of yours that I need to get back to you somehow... (and we're both Giants fans, too.)

ROFL!!!!

From: [identity profile] janetmiles.livejournal.com
Yes, boring, me.

1. Complete absence of anything resembling creativity, hence my username being the same as my legal name.

2. Complete absence of anything resembing abstract philosophical thought, hence my LJ being filled entirely with quiz results and self-indulgent whining.

3. Complete absence anything resembling concrete logical thought, hence my inability to solve Sailor Jim's recent math post.

4. And so on.

1. Erick "Rick" Vermillion-Salsbury-- once known as Cali4nia on #callahans, but I don't recall you from there and it's been too many years. ("I am Elmer Fudd, millionayuh. I own a mansion und a yacht".)

2. I'm a Callahanian.

2) Your Journal was posted in the dyuchovnik's by you... Being our resident in the tower and all...

2 You know, I dont recall how I got your LJ, I may have learned it at a con.
3 I ask you space sci-fi questions, I used to play traveller, and you knew one of my ex's fairly well.

1) JustAnother Random LJ'er, I fear.

2) Don't recall exactly, but most likely the result of a friend-of-a-friend-of-a... The other possibility is following a link posted to one of the RPG Usenet groups. Have you ever put your LJ URL out there that way?

Either way, it's pretty much random surfing. After all, half the fun of the 'web is trying to figure out how the hell you got to whatever page you ended up reaching.

3) I've been playing RPGs for an entirely too long time. Recognized your name from a variety of Traveller sources - I've played both Classic and GURPS Trav. I have a lot of respect for your work there, and found your postings to various usenet RPG groups well-written (and often enlightening).

Yes, until the spam attack from hell forced me to changed my email. I'm waiting to get my personal and Traveller pages re-done before I put the URLs in my sigs.

1. Jeffrey is the name, if my LJ handle wasn't too much of a clue. you don't know me.

2. I believe I got the link from the TML-- I lurk there.

3. I 'play Traveller' for values of making ships, deckplans and toying with scenarios. Mainly I'm the 'tech editor' for the TaiPan project and Traveller is grist for the mill

2. Through your web page.

3. I'm just a fanboy who used to play Traveller 2300 and bumped into one of your posts one day on the net.

1. Kierin. We met when I still used my old name but I'm not posting it here.

2. Could be from Kshandra or other person we know in common. We I made the account I scanned for people I knew. You are still on my list because I often find your posts interesting. I read everything on my friends list so if I start skimming or passing over, it is time to remove people. And I like penguins.

3. At least from BayCon. Probably one or more of the old chat boards but that has been a long time and possibly even RHPS which has been even longer.

1. Steve Glover - we've never met in RL that I know of.

2. I think you mentioned the LJ on rasseff, although I'm fairly sure I recognise you from other newsgroups back when I used to read Too Many of them (I've not read/posted to alt.callahans/alt.polyamory/alt.pagan in maybe years, frex).

3. Not played Trav in far too long - like while it was still the little A5-sized booklets that would all fit into the box. Music I came to late and have been trying to catch up on. I must be doing something right, 'cos my son's lent the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin CDs to his mates, which on previous form means they'll need replacing when I'm working again.

Lessee now: also a fan, but burned out on the active stuff, bar the odd post to rasseff; also a wearer of the black for similar reasons; know remarkably little about sport (been stewarding the odd football match recently, and I'm stil managing to watch the crowd, not the game: I'm told this'll change); seem to be reading a lot more history/historical fiction/alternate history these days.

Politically: probably further to the left than most folk I've come across from across the Atlantic, and further down the State Control/Individual Freedom axis than many of the people I know on this side (that'll be about -7,-7 on http://www.politicalcompass.org)

Hmm. That seems to be more about me than I've ever stuck up on LJ. Must remedy that.

2. How did you find my journal? Did I give you a card? Saw the link in a post I made somewhere? Did I scrawl it on your back at a convention?
I followed [livejournal.com profile] cmdr_zoom here from his friends list.

3. If necessary, what's our connection? Do we both play Traveller? Listen to metal? You write CiaB's for Pyramid, to which I subscribed since Issue #1. You write Interesting Stuff that I gleefully steal and use to mess with my players heads, such as the aforementioned [livejournal.com profile] cmdr_zoom, [livejournal.com profile] pjack, [livejournal.com profile] naudiz, and [livejournal.com profile] sbloss (my better half). I used to play Traveller, and maybe will again someday, in the meantime, I just add the GURPS Traveller books to my Wall O' GURPS and snip and snag pieces for the games I do run. I don't listen to much metal anymore, but would heartily recommend you give Course of Empire a try, they rock.

Heh, that wasn't even the connection I was going for with the title.. I was thinking of the Heinlein story in which thanks to time travel and gender reassignment surgery, one person is every character.

The story ends with "I know who I am, but who are all you zombies?"

Date: 4 Nov 2003 13:55 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aurictech.livejournal.com
While I immediately caught the Heinlein reference, I didn't even make the song connection until you responded.

"Yes, I scored poorly on the '80's Lyrics Quiz (http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html). Why do you ask?" ;-)
