Florida Marlins: 2
New York Yankees: 0
Marlins win the World Series 4 games to 2.
Well, I'm off to Milliways. Last night, several impossible things happened.
1. The team with one of the smallest payrolls in the big leagues beat the team with the, by far, largest.
2. On three days rest (the modern standard is four) a 23-year old pitcher mowed down the dreaded Yankees in a complete game shut-out, needing only 107 pitches. That's not dominance, that's ownership! Josh Beckett simply owned the Yankees from the first pitch to the last, a weak hit which he picked up, and then tagged out Jorge Posada to end the 2003 season. (This of course makes me think of Dusty not starting Kirk Rueter on three day's rest last year...)
3. The Yankees lost the Series at home. That hasn't happened in 22 years.
4. Neither Don Zimmer nor George Steinbrenner burst into flame when the last out was recorded.
5. Yankees Stadium, according to all reports, was silent after the loss. No screamed curses, nothing thrown.. just fans in shock.
Well, that's it for the season. The only thing left are the various awards. If any Giants win any, I'll post them here.
Oh.. four months until spring training opens. :)
(I'm keeping the icon. We still are the 2002 N.L. Champs after all.)
