Well, according to the wonders of cruddy search engines, Hiroo (Two os) Onoda is some guy who kept fighting 29 years after WW2 ended... but I doubt it's the same guy.

Same guy. I've seen it spelled both ways. He's either the Last Samurai or a complete nutcase, depending on who you ask.
