Of Interviews and Birthdays...

Been meaning to update y'all for the last couple of days, but life got in the way. So, here are the highlights.
Thursday I had an interview with a company that does marketing at festivals. You know those "won a car, and can we interest you in a time share?" places? That's what I'm applying for. Not so much the sales end, but setting things up, and tearing them down. Good solid part-time work that will help me get back into shape. But first. I have to get there. These folks are in Sunnyvale, a pretty good haul on the bus.
Minor rant. The VTA does not have a trip planner on their site. So figuring out my line of march involved downloading the system map and having several tabs open in Mozillia so I could compare bus schedules. After many calculations, I decide that the 27 to the 54 will serve me best.
Get on the bus, ride along, marvel at how things have changed in my old neighborhood again. I used to practically live on the 27. We get into Los Gatos and there are 39 kids in blue t-shirts, along with three harried young women in blue t-shirts waiting for the bus. Summer program kids going to a bowling alley in Saratoga. Ever share a bus with 39 ten year olds? Loud is a good place to start.
Make my transfer, and eventually reach the Sunnyvale Town Center, and after some searching, find the place. Walk in, and I', greeted by two gargoyles. Seems this company also does the Gyro haunted house every year. This makes me feel a bit more comfortable.. after all, if they're cool enough to keep the decorations up all year, I might just fit in here.
The actual interview went well. Very conversational, we went over my work history, and talked about my work at cons and other volunteer work that I've done. I really have some good feelings about this one. Good work vibes will be accepted.
Leave the office, and head back out to the bus stop for the ride home, and there is a guy busking by the stop. Right about that moment, a bell begins chiming 3 o'clock, and the busker begins playing Hell's Bells! I told him that if I had any money, it would have been his. He grinned and said that he just couldn't help it, the bells sounded exactly like the one AC/DC used.
Go back to waiting for the bus, and I hear jet engines. Loud engines. Really LOUD engines. Look up and see a bloody C-5A Galaxy on approach to Moffett Field. Sucker was only a few hundred feet up and already had his gear down. Great Ghu, those things are bloody huge! Bus comes, I get on, and ride to where I'm supposed to get the 27, and wait for the bus.
And wait. And wait some more. After about 45 minutes, I'm starting to worry that I've missed the last bus that hits this spur of the line, and they'll find me there the next morning. Just as I'm starting to really worry, the bus pulls up, I get on, and see 39 kids in blue t-shirts accompanied by the three harried young women in blue t-shirts. Wasn't this where I got on?
Got home, and crashed early.
Woke up Friday realizing that I was 37. Another year rolled by, and I get to thumb my nose at cancer again. Ha!
The only activity planned was dinner at my mom's place. When you have a birthday on a national holiday, and share the day with your little sister, you never expect much. So I spent most of the day reading. I've discovered John Ringo, and am enjoying When The Devil Dances right now.
Evening comes, and we head over. This year, it's just
kshandra and myself.. the sister was off with her fiance doing something. More tacos for us! The food was good, the cake excellent, and we watched a great Giants-Padres game.. which reminds me:
San Francisco Giants: 8
San Diego Padres: 6
My mother lives across the street from a high school, and there was a group over there setting of a pretty spectacular fireworks display. Serious amounts of clusters and actual professional=grade explosions. I'm surprised we didn't see the cops there in force by the time we left.
We left at about 2200, crawled home and I crashed out while Kiri stayed up to do some netting and work on a CD. A good birthday.
So, now I've caught up on the highlights. Tomorrow, we're going geocaching. I'll report on that Sunday evening.
