Just out of curiosity, why tears at Centrefield? It's always seemed like such a happy song to me.

The last verse, about the homemade bat, etc.. For some reason, these lines get me to tear up:

"Just hit the ball, and touch them all,
A moment in the sun.."
*CRACK*
"It's gone and you can tell that one goodbye."

Cool, I've actually heard most of them. (An unusual thing with these LJ musical memes, for me.)

Thick as a Brick, definitely!

I might have heard these, but I don't recognize them by name:

"Centerfield" - John Fogerty
"The Wheel" - The Grateful Dead

I have never heard of The Offspring.

"Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" - The Offspring

Centerfield is John Fogerty's tribute to baseball.. you hear it a lot right around Spring Training.

The Wheel is a bit of fun fluff from the Grateful Dead. It was always great in concert, and so reminds me of the shows I saw way back when.

The Offspring are neo-punks with a metal/rap edge. Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) is their 'tribute' to all the suburban white kids who so want to be black and cool.

Thanks!

Oh, I have heard "The Wheel." Live, even. Just didn't know the name.

I will await The Offsprings spinoff song about the Big Moves hip-hop class for fat middle-aged white women, which I enjoyed tremendously.
