gridloreCaptain commander of the Rube Goldberg. A native of Derinkuyu, Erim has been gene-modified over several generations to withstand the 2.9 g (28.42mps^2) gravity field of his homeworld.
He is a dwarf, standing only 148cm, but built on a very sturdy frame and is deceptively strong.
Captain Erim is a dedicated, meticulous officer who has risen through the ranks on merit. He is aware of prejudice against "gene freaks" but up until now has depended on his record to shield him.
His one failing is his lack of political awareness. He has simply ignored this on his rise to senior commands and is unprepared for the reality.
Teker Erim is dark in complexion, keeps his hair buzzed close to his scalp, but cultivates a large mustache, that he spends time styling.
Erim is from a very wealthy family, a fact that embarrasses him. He would never think of using his family's influence to get ahead. This has put him at something of an impasse with his father.
Erim had an older sister, Albani, who proceeded him into the Peacekeeper Fleet. She was killed in a border Skirmish with the Dà tiānguó (the Great Celestial Empire.)
Teker begins the book depressed and feeling betrayed. He comes around and decides to make the most of the assignment if for no other reason than to piss off the forces that sent him here.

And our First Officer, Maja Hallström
Date: 1 Nov 2022 01:13 (UTC)Maja came up through Logistics and was never selected for the command track, so she has been content to be the best "behind the chair" officer she can be. She is quietly furious at how the Peacekeeper command has used ships like the Goldberg as dumping grounds for officers that they want o bury or force into retirement. In her three years aboard, she has seen five captains, one who died of suicide, and one who just died in his chair on the bridge.
Hallström stands 184cm tall and is lithe but well-built. She has pale skin, and ice-blue eyes, and is constantly pushing her hair out of her eyes.
Commander Hallström is a note-taker. She is constantly either typing or reading notes into her datapad. She has an eye for detail and is the terror of the crew. She likes it that way.
In her free time, Maja is addicted to the dramas imported from the Celestial Empire. She has learned Cantonese to enjoy them better. She will deny this under torture.
