Had my best ever game of Civ IV - Beyond the Sword yesterday. 35K points, Diplomatic win in about 1850. but it's what happened earlier in the game that made me chuckle.

I'm still trying out different leaders and for this game chose Charlemagne and the Holy Roman Empire. Come to find out that my closest neighbor is Augustus Caesar and the Roman Empire. I obviously had to eliminate them just over the fact that our mail was always going to the wrong empire.

"No, no.. we're the Holy Roman Empire. You're looking for the Roman Empire. Look, just follow this road out past the Great Wall to Prague. Turn right, and you'll find Rome."

I will say that this victory was made much easier by getting four Settlers from various tribal camps. Gave me a huge boost right at the start.

You guys are freaking awesome. The sale of the RPG stuff has been successful beyond my wildest dreams. I've got another confirmation email or two to send out, and tonight Kiri and i will start boxing things up. A couple of requests.

  1. If you've bought something, and haven't sent us the shipping address, please email me at dberry49er(at)gmail(dot)com

  2. Three people have asked about the Paranoia set, but no one has bid. I'm not setting prices because I want you folks to pay what you feel it is worth. Again, dberry49er(at)gmail(dot)com if you want anything still on the list.

  3. I'll be posting a revised list tomorrow. There are still some goodies to be had.

Again, thanks for making this such a success. There will be more to come as we dig in to storage boxes and closets.

As we all know by now, Haiti has been devastated by a massive earthquake. Three days ago. Thousands dead, many thousands more missing. It's a tragedy, no doubt.

However, after three days the story no longer requires multiple hours of continuous coverage when there are no new developments. Once again we are seeing the same video, the same sound bites, and the same choked commentary recycled over and over. What we need is an editor to say "what is new in this story? What developments need to be touched on? And most importantly, what have we beaten into the ground?"

The rest of the world doesn't stop because there is a really big story somewhere. I'd like to see some coverage of the Prop 8 trial here in California. There's a special election for the Senate seat formally held by Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts that could affect the balance of power in Congress for years to come. There are other things going on. Tell me about Haiti, tell me what is happening, then move on to other stories.

It's not that I don't care about the situation in Haiti; it's that I also care about the other issues in the world and want to hear about them as well.

EDIT: Seems Bill Maher agrees with me.

OK, here's what's left. If you bid on something and still see it, contact me at dberry49er@gmail.com I either had multiple copies or forgot to mark it off.

The much-reduced list )

Rather than the screened comments, if you want something email me directly at dberry49er@gmail.com

No reasonable crazy offer refused!
