California Earthquake (Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On)

Lyrics: Rodney Crowell
Music: Rodney Crowell

There was a California earthquake, in the year of '83
It shook the living daylights out of the Owens County Seat
Not a building still left standing when the dust had cleared away
Just a rumble in the distance all the way to San Andrea

San Francisco. Collapsed and burned buildings at Beach and Divisadero in the Marina District.

Oh Sherman Buck was driving his old mule into town
When a big one came and shook so hard, that it knocked him to the ground
Lord there opened up a hole so big, he thought his time was up
And it swallowed up that poor old mule and it just missed Sherman Buck

Summit Road area in the Santa Cruz Mountains. A crack system destroyed a driveway adjacent to Summit Road half a mile southeast of Highway 17.

California earthquake you just don't know what you've done
We may fall off in the ocean, but you'll never make us run
You're a partner to the devil, but we ain't afraid of him
We'll build ourselves another town so you can tear it down again

Then came the quake of '99 that leveled Mission Creek
The earth was like an ocean churning, with waves of twenty feet
Lord it sounded like a thousand trains were screaming underground
Clean across to San Joaquin, they heard that mournful sound

Santa Cruz Area. Rescue efforts at the Pacific Garden Mall.

California earthquake you just don't know what you've done
We may fall off in the ocean, but you'll never make us run
You're a partner to the devil, but we ain't afraid of him
We'll build ourselves another town so you can tear it down again

Then came one day the holocaust on San Francisco Bay
Ninety miles of walls came down like old Jericho that day
Might near everything the earthquake missed, a holy fire consumed
And left 'em smoke and the ashes of the dreams that can't be ruined

Players, police, and officials on the field at Candlestick Park shortly after the quake forced the postponement of Game 3 of the Giants-A's World Series.

California earthquake you just don't know what you've done
We may fall off in the ocean, but you'll never make us run
You're a partner to the devil, but we ain't afraid of him
We'll build ourselves another town so you can tear it down again

Build ourselves another town so you can tear it down again

Had a follow-up appointment with the dermatology department today. Every since my chemotherapy I have had wart-like eruptions on my hands (more recently up my arms as far as my elbows.) They are ugly and annoying. So i want them gone.

My first appointment consisted of freezing a few off in hopes of jump-starting my immune system to fight off the rest. Good luck with that, since my immune system is the moral equivalents of the Italian Army of WWII. Good enough against weak opponents, but folds in the face of an actual attack.

Today I saw a different doctor, and he expressed some amazement at the number, size, and range of my spots. Before deciding on a course of treatment, he wanted a "skin" sample. I put that in quotes because what he took was about the size and shape of a pencil eraser. I now have stitches and a follow-up in two weeks.

I'm never going to complain about a doctor being thorough, but can I please get an occasional medical incident that results in a clear diagnosis on the first exam and a clear treatment free of excessive side effects?
