"Welcome to our nightmare."
Mar. 13th, 2009 03:36 pmThis is not what you want to hear when calling a customer. Luckily, I really like these guys.
Station Landing again. I had five orders (none too big, boxes and a small bundle) for them, but one had a big NO DELIVERIES BETWEEN 8-10 AM written on it. I had another delivery a block away (which involved carrying a hundred pound pallet fifty feet up a hill in a two-man carry) so drove by to see what was up.
Oh my Halford. I couldn't even get close to the place. It seemed like they had scheduled a huge block of heavy late stage deliveries for this morning on the theory they could dedicate the cranes to off loading. What they ended up with was Truck Tetris. Discretion being the better part of valor, I drove off to do my last two stops. After those were done I called my customer at Station Landing to see if it was okay to come back. When he called me back, he greeted me with the title of this post.
I did manage to get in to the site by a back gate, and then had to thread my truck through a maze of equipment, uneven ground, unobservant workers, and two concrete utility vaults. Finally, I get slotted into a narrow space right behind a double flatbed big rig delivering drywall supplies.. and get told that it's break time.
*sigh*
Amazing how comfortable my truck bed can be on a warm day. The hard hat makes a good head cradle. I caught a brief nap. Got offloaded, managed to escape.
Back at the warehouse, I had almost escaped when a single delvery came up for Cupertino. I agreed to take it in Darby, and call Rustam when I was finished to get clocked out. I was tired, and really didn't want to have to hunt down the F-150 keys, sign it out, make the delivery, come back, sign the truck in, yadda, yadda, yadda. So Darby has finally been a real truck.
Tomorrow, I'm getting a haircut.
