Friday I felt something pop in my left shoulder as I was replacing my gates just prior to parking and finishing up for the week. No biggie, end of the week and I'm tired and sore anyway. Except that it didn't go away on Saturday, by Sunday I was in a lot of pain, and this morning when I got to work I couldn't even reach into my basket to get my run. Yeah.

So at 0600 I get to tell my boss I need to go to the occupational health clinic. I then spend an hour helping a warehouse guy with my stops for the day (luckily it's very slow) and assorted sitting around before being told to clock out and go over to the 7th St. warehouse That's where our safety manager works, and he is the only one who can fill out the relevant paperwork. Of course, he doesn't get to work until 0830-0900.

Get my paperwork, go to the clinic, and it is packed as usual. Finally get called back. We got through all the usual prods and pokes, I get yet another X-ray, and the final diagnosis is a shoulder sprain. I've been given Voltaren for the inflammation and Flexeril for pain control. What's interesting is that I'm not supposed to lift more than ten pounds with my left arm. This makes doing pretty much any job in the warehouse a wash. What we've done in the past is have a warehouse worker ride along with the driver to do the heavy lifting.

We'll see how this works out. Now, if all y'all will excuse me, I'm going to try my new meds.

I'm still a Usenet junkie. I tend to dislike web-based boards (the threading tends to suck) and I like the wide-open nature of Usenet. It's like the internet was before it became the Web. We, for example, gleefully engage in swearing, character assassination, and flame wars.

Good times, people, good times.

But the problem has become finding a server. As Usenet fades, more of the big ISPs are dropping or neglecting their NNTP duties. Earthlink (our ISP had a server that went to shit months ago. So I switched to aioe.org, a free server. But their groups list was curiously spotty, and today the server vanished. Can't even find a status page. So I bit the bullet, did some research, and subscribed to easynews. It's only $10/month.

The problem is I'm a new user there. So Agent is trying to download everything in their servers. For alt.atheism, that means 897,085 posts.

Good thing I'm home early today.

Woo!

Indians' Cabrera turns rare unassisted triple play

Indians second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera turned the 14th unassisted triple play in major league history, accomplishing the feat Monday night in the second game of a doubleheader against Toronto.

Cabrera made a diving catch on a line drive by Lyle Overbay, touched second base and then tagged out Marco Scutaro to quickly end the fifth inning.

Undefeated Cliff Lee, who came in 6-0 with an 0.81 ERA, gave up consecutive singles to Kevin Mench and Scutaro to open the Blue Jays fifth.

The runners took off on the pitch and Overbay hit a line drive up the middle. Cabrera moved to his right, grabbed the ball with a backhanded dive and held up his glove to show the umpire he'd made the catch.

Cabrera then took a couple of steps to touch second to get Mench, who was already standing at third base.

Cabrera easily reached out to tag Scutaro, who had run past the bag. History made, Cabrera broke into a smile as he ran off the field with the game still scoreless.

I've seen a few unassisted double plays, and two triple plays, but one guy getting all three outs in one play? Slightly more rare than a perfect game.

I hope he kept the ball.
