Today was our first Giants game of the season. The day was almost perfect.

San Francisco Giants: 7
St. Louis Cardinals: 8
(10 innings)

Read the SF Gate story

We caught the train up, got to the park in plenty of time to wander around and buy stuff. Kirsten got a new Giants shirt (her Grateful Dead/Giants one is getting a bit long in the tooth) and a sun visor, I got an orange shirt for the July 4th game. We're going to get "BLEACHERS" and our section number "142" on the back of that shirt. Seems to be a trend among the Bench-Sitting Horde. I brought along Mr. Bigglesworth, since the park has wireless and a dedicated server that lets you keep score, call up stats, and watch replays. Worked like a charm, except the bright sunlight made it impossible to read the screen!

What shocked us was that it was hot! We're so used to attending Giants games and needing cold-weather gear to survive, we never even thought that a forecast for warm weather would affect AT&T Park. But the temperature at game time was in the low eighties. Needless to say, sitting on metal benches in the hot sun wearing black t-shirts soon got a mite uncomfortable. But we were there for baseball, and we got a great game. Matt Cain (who must be on suicide watch right now) carried a no hitter into the 7th, and helped his own cause by getting a solo home run. John Bowker, called up this morning from the minors to make his MLB debut, responds by going 2-3, including a three-run homer! Kid got shoved back onto the field for a standing ovation from a Giants nation that is aching for young talent.

Alas, our damn bullpen blew things, and even after we tied the game in the 9th, Kiri and I were toasted and done. So we shuffled out back towards CalTrain, learning along the way that the Cards had scored the eventual winning run in the 10th. Too bad.

But a great day all around, and Kiri built a Lou Seal at the ball park's Build-A-Bear.

I've posted some pictures from the day.

Next up, April 28th against the Colorado Rockies.
