As part of our drive to de-clutter our lives, we decided to get rid of the ass-eating couch and the battered old desk we'd picked up on freecycle. Turns out you literally cannot give furniture away. I tried all the local charities, and none of them would pick our stuff up. So we checked out 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Kiri and I decided it was worth it, and we booked a pick up for today.

Not only were the guys early, they carefully explained the service, were very polite, professional, and had good senses of humor. They got right to work and handled everything with class. Well worth the 200 bucks to get our crap out of here with no work on our part.

If any of you have a garage/room/yard full of crap, think about these guys. We were very impressed.

So, having just gotten rid of old crappy furniture, we immediately needed new furniture! Makes sense to us.

Luckily, there's a Mancini's Sleepworld right next to the Cost Plus World Market I used to work at. Kirsten wanted to get a new frame for the futon cushion. The old frame is in the garage, providing a home to countless poisonous arachnids, but we don't have the instructions on how to put the thing together. Getting the new frame means getting the instructions. We're thinking. (Sorry about the smoke.)

Mancini's is neat in that it's very old school about shopping. Salespeople who actually great you, listen to you, and then help you decide after showing your options. The frame was $109, and I was amused that the sales guy was suggesting $400 cushions to go with it. But there was no high pressure. I really like that.

Next door to World Market. Damn, they've completely reset the entire store since I worked there. Not just minor shifts, but wholesale relocation of sections like Wine and Gourmet. Nobody I know works there anymore. You can't go home again. But you can find a nice wine rack that fits on the kitchen shelf. After some debate, I am finally the owner of my own papasan chair! My chair has darker wood with a red cushion. We didn't bother with the footstool today, that can come next week or something. Alas, the frame wouldn't fit in our over-stuffed car, so I volunteered to carry the thing home. It's only a block or so, right?

Did I mention that Storm 3 decided to hit us at that moment? Yeah, yet another raging inferno of wetness.

The futon frame gets delivered next Saturday. Between then and now, we need to clean the carpets.

Amusing. My top match has already dropped out. Of course, I really think that Dodd is a bad idea for one reason: do we really want to run another liberal New Englander? It's become a stereotype! A late-night punchline! Richardson looks interesting. I'll have to read more about him.

I think my relatively high showing among the GOPers comes from my stance on gun control (use both hands and aim center mass) and foreign policy.
