As part of our drive to de-clutter our lives, we decided to get rid of the ass-eating couch and the battered old desk we'd picked up on freecycle. Turns out you literally cannot give furniture away. I tried all the local charities, and none of them would pick our stuff up. So we checked out 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Kiri and I decided it was worth it, and we booked a pick up for today.

Not only were the guys early, they carefully explained the service, were very polite, professional, and had good senses of humor. They got right to work and handled everything with class. Well worth the 200 bucks to get our crap out of here with no work on our part.

If any of you have a garage/room/yard full of crap, think about these guys. We were very impressed.

In Toronto you can get it hauled away for free by the city. There's a limit to the number of large items they'll pick up a year, and they only come one day a month, but it does make cleaning up a bit easier...

We have something similar, but it's not until spring, and the mood to renovate has hit me now. Spring may see the garage get emptied out.

We have regular monthly pickup days.

My Russian neighbours don't seem to have figured this out*, and just dump old appliances and furniture on the curb until someone else phones the Town and gets them picked up.

*Or more likely don't give a damn, given their habit of holding drunken parties in the middle of the street in the wee hours of the morning.

Big old leather couch that clamped onto you and refused to let go. When we cleaned it out, we found a lot of change, two old roommates, and this old wooden cup... but not my damn universal remote!!!
