Giants make a move.
Jul. 22nd, 2006 10:55 amOK, we're a half-game back in the NL Weird, and the trade deadline is beginning to loom on the horizon. Time to address some needs. We made a good first step.
The Giants have traded reliever Jeremy Accardo to Toronto for first baseman Shea Hillenbrand. We also got a reliever in the deal.
Yes, Hillenbrand has a temper, but I think his meltdown with the Blue Jays was caused by a perceived lack of focus in the team and support from the front office. I think he'll do well here.
His numbers? .301 batting average, .342 slugging percentage, and a .480 on-base percentage. 12 home runs, 39 RBIs. Not a great bat, but a solid one. Put him in the 5 or 6 hole and move Pedro Feliz to 3rd in the order.
We also got Vinnie Chulk in the deal. Eh. ERA is a bit high, but he gets a lot of strikeouts, and he's much the same package as the guy we traded away.
Good trade, in my opinion.

Ladies and Gentlemen...
Jul. 22nd, 2006 09:05 pmYour first-place San Francisco Giants!
San Francisco Giants: 4
San Diego Padres: 3
Giants win their fifth straight, and third in a row over the Padres, to take a half-game lead in the NL West.
w00t!
In other news, we blew off the SJ Giants game today. It was still well over 100 at game time. Still 92 degrees at 2100hrs. Neither of us felt like sweltering in direct sunlight.
The party for Kylie was a lot of fun. The guest of honor was on her best behavior, smiling, happy, and crawling like a maniac. She can stand up on her own, and looks like she's thinking about walking, but not quite yet. Kylie was stunned when everyone sang happy birthday, but that was quickly forgotten in the face of a new experience.. cake!
Pictures will be along presently.
After the party, we decided that all we wanted was to go to the mall and sit in the food court. We were both peopled out and warm. A little retail therapy, and Kirsten dropped me at home to watch the SF Giants while she went to Starport for the cold air.
I've taken three cold showers since I got home. More are on the agenda.
