Yesterday, as I mentioned, I had to go for a pre-employment physical and drug test. This meant leaving home during the Giants' home opener, but one must make sacrifices!

Went back over to my new employer to pick up the appointment slip, and went to the clinic. Read Collapse, watched some four-year olds play with cars on the floor, and finally got called back. Piddled in a cup, got measured, weighed, had my lungs and heart listened too, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then came the fun part. For this job I had to do a muscle test. Was my ability to grasp, lift, and carry good enough for the requirements of the job? I got to wear a cool heart monitor, and the first few tests were easy... then we got to the lifting phase. I had to lift a box from the floor and put it on a shoulder-high shelf then place it back on the floor. Four reps, at 20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs, and 50lbs. Since I was being watched by a physical therapist, I had to lift correctly. Which meant I had to do a full squat 32 times. Then once more for the carry test.

Lifting was no problem, but oy, my hips! I was very rubbery when I left, and by the time I got home I was most definitely feeling the pain. This morning, I was still sore. It's starting to fade a bit, but I can see that getting back into shape is a priority.

We really need to get my bike fixed up. (It needs new tires and a tune up.) A mile or two a day on the bike would do wonders for my health.
