A tale of love and baseball

All together now, "awwwww..."
This would make a great movie. Especially that moment when they met.
They say Romeo and Juliet had it tough, what with their families a little steamed at one another. Now, imagine if Romeo worked for the St. Louis Cardinals all his life and Juliet for the Cubs, or if he were a ballplayer and she a sportswriter.
You think there would have been a balcony scene?
This is a love story that proves two people who adore each other can overcome Olympian obstacles, such as the fact that reporters and pro athletes would rather go to prison than spend free time together, or that the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry makes the Capulets versus the Montagues seem like a friendly tiddledywinks competition.
He is pitcher Matt Morris, the 101-game winner who this winter shed the Cardinal red he has worn since 1997 and signed a three-year, $27 million contract with the Giants. She is the former Heather Reader, who grew up in southeastern Wisconsin a devoted Cubs fan, eventually went to work as a columnist for the team's Web site and then became a day-to-day Cubs reporter when MLB.com took over the site.
Unusual circumstances brought them together. She overcame her instincts against dating a ballplayer, he overcame her family's initial wariness and they became Mr. and Mrs. Matt and Heather Morris on Dec. 7, 2002.
All together now, "awwwww..."
