The one drawback to my job is that I can't sit at the computer all day and post when the mood strikes. That, and I'm frequently pretty damn tired by the time I get home so any attempt to update comes out as "blergle. bleah. ack-thhhpp." So I have to wait for my blessed days off to let y'all know the state of the Doug.

I've seen the first two episodes of Lost. I'm hooked.

Plenty of drama at work recently. The guy I was hired with was canned for terminal stupidity. We are given gas credit cards for those times when we need to refuel Podzilla (which takes unleaded gas) or the truck when we can't go to the Ryder fuel line for some reason. Obviously, the company reviews those receipts. T. had been filling up his own car with the company gas card. We've been told that if it is an actual emergency - we're out of gas and have no way to pay - to call first and get permission and we can put ten bucks on the card. But T. couldn't be bothered and was filling his SUV. But, to be honest, we all knew this was going to happen. The guy never listened to anyone. He shorted out the auxiliary power source in every truck he drove by plugging his obscenely complex phone system into it. He was the reason for the time use forms and for us having to take lunch breaks. Wasn't a very good driver, either.

Another driver got fired, and then was quickly rehired when he and his lawyer showed up to serve the company with a wrongful termination suit. That one is a victory for the good guys.

I swear I'm writing. I just don't have time to really do it. Trying to write a future history in fifteen minute blocks really sucks.

I have beer. I will not surrender.

On today's agenda is the other two episodes of Lost on this disk, some writing and Nethack, and ordering GURPS: Space since I'm pretty sure I'm not on the comp list for playtesters on that one.

I'm on the playtest for GURPS Vehicles, but again, time constraints have kept me from participating. so I'm at least going to read the damn files today and try to focus on the stuff that most affects the Concordat.. realistic space drives, spin habitats, and FTL systems.

Pitchers and Catchers Report in: 3 days, 1 hour, 27 minutes and 2 seconds from right now. Interestingly, my battered and faded Giants cap surfaced last night. It knows that the time has come.. Go Giants!

Must food soon. Craving chocolate.

Sure, everybody loves the cool new Cylons in Battlestar Galactica, but what about the cost?

AMC is showing First Blood. Sadly, this film gets lumped in with the other two Rambo films, which were over the top, jingoistic, and pretty fucking awful.

This film is different. It's far more a character study, both of the characters (John Rambo and Sheriff Will Teasle in p-articular) and of America. The small Washington town of Hope is a microcosm of what America is supposed to be. Peaceful, friendly, open. But its protector goes to far to maintain the status quo, and his fear sets off another facet of America.. its military.

I remember watching this at my recruiter's office with a bunch of other recruits. The sergeants made sure we knew that most of this was pure BS, but the one Special Forces type in the group kept pointing out where Rambo used actual tricks of the trade.

The most amazing thing about this film is Stallone acting, and doing a decent job of it.

Good film. If you haven't seen it, give it a shot.
