A Penguin in New York.
Oct. 14th, 2004 03:29 pmTaking a few moments to bring y'all up to date.
My flight out was great, except for the Faux-news watching fundies I was trapped next too. JetBlue is a wonderful airline.
NYC is big. Coming in, I couldn't believe how far, and dense, the city lights extended. Once on the ground,
hlw and I hooked up quickly, and into Queens we went!
It was so good to finally meet
fimbrethil we immediately clicked, and had a great talk. I also met the utterly wonderful Bree, and about 3.5x10^7 animals, all of whom looked at me and realized I was a complete push over. I've spent much of my time here covered in cats. Cats, a dog, and an aggressive parrot who doesn't like my Giants cap (figures, I encounter a bird brain and it's a Dodger's fan.)
This morning we walked Bree to school, stopping in a playground built on a cemetery (they didn't bother moving the bodies) and then we explored Flushing Cemetery, a great old place where Louis Armstrong is buried. We found one stone dating back to about 1680; and there were others about that old, but that were illegible with age.
After that, Helen and I went for breakfast, and I accompanied her on some errands. Nice and low key, just enjoying the day so far.
Helen was also kind enough to get me a subway map, a MTA pass, and reservations for a Grey Line tour (which I'll take Sunday.
Tonight is the piano bar. We're both joking that we're so tired it will be one drink, two songs, and time to go home. Tomorrow, the wedding.
Have to go, a cat wants its chew toy.
