The All-Important Baseball Report #7
Aug. 30th, 2003 07:15 pmWe're into the home stretch, and today Barry Bonds came back from bereavement leave..
San Francisco Giants: 2
Arizona Diamondbacks: 1
Our scores came on two hits. A Rich Aurillia homer in the first, and Barry Bonds blasted one in the fourth. That was it as far as offense goes.
The real story was the duel between Jerome Williams and Randy Johnson. The rookie vs. the old master. Both pitchers were magnificent, Johnson struck out 11 in seven innings of work, while Williams went eight and a third, striking out eight. Williams got in a jam in the third, loading the bases with only one out. but he got out of it without allowing a run to score.
So, with less than thirty games left, here's what the NL West looks like:
The Giants have 28 games on the schedule.. it's unlikely we'll have to make up the game that was cancelled against the Mets.
And the NL standings bet:
gridlore - San Francisco Giants 81 - 53 .604
redroach - Houston Astros 71 - 64 .526
aurictech - St. Louis Cardinals 71 - 64 .526
