OK, the holidays are about finished, so I can do the report on the events and swag.

Picking up from the party (where I forgot to mention [livejournal.com profile] blackfyr and [livejournal.com profile] lysana's presence, sorry folks!) we actually had a couple of calm days before the big day. Christmas Eve came, and aside from the obligatory dinner disaster ([livejournal.com profile] kshandra was helping to unload the box, and what appeared to be one thing was actually three, and some stuff spilled) everything tasted wonderful and a good time was had.

Christmas itself was quiet. Kiri had to work, so I spent the day reading and just being mellow. Thursday I had the blues, as I reported. Friday we went down to my moms. There, we met with my brother Craig [livejournal.com profile] isomeme, his lovely wife Lauri [livejournal.com profile] laurellady, and daughter Lenore. Another feast was held, with an incredibly good chicken dish that we need to have the recipe for.

All in all, a fairly stress-free Christmas. I was so glad that we got the party off, and that people enjoyed the gifts I found for them.

So, what did I get? Glad you asked.

- From [livejournal.com profile] dafydd, A Long Strange Trip: The Insider History of the Grateful Dead
- From [livejournal.com profile] clairaide The castleerewhon.net domain for all of us
- From [livejournal.com profile] kshandra A very nice photo of her.
- From [livejournal.com profile] isomeme and family, We received a gift card for Borders Books and Music.
- From my mother, a nice warm grey sweater, perfect for the trip to New York.
- From [livejournal.com profile] fimbrethil A terrycloth penguin that I've named Pixel. From a foot or two away, he looks like a low-rez image of a penguin.
- and finally, Santa brought me my annual motorcycle. This one is a picture frame with spaces for two photos in the wheels. I have pictures of my two long-distance sweeties [livejournal.com profile] fimbrethil and [livejournal.com profile] eleri in there, so I can look at them all the time.

[livejournal.com profile] fimbrethil also sent us a nice roll of wrapping paper with, you guessed it, penguins on it. I've already enthused at length about the subwoofer that [livejournal.com profile] dafydd gave Kiri and me.

Hope everyone else had a nice holiday seas

The FBI has begun testing their newest technology to monitor the Internet here.

No reason at all to become paranoid.

While playing around with Internet radio, I came across a little station in Ft. Bragg (a bit north of here on the California coast) that is one of the few stations left that plays the Dr. Demento show. I tuned in to see what kind of sound quality I could get and found that they were replaying "The King Biscuit Flower Hour" with Supertramp. You whippersnappers won't remember, but listening to KBFH was very important back in the day. It might be the only way you got to hear Y&T for example.

Y&T? You know the band? You don't know Y&T? Cultural wasteland, I tell ya.

Go 'way kids, and let me reminese about when you had Tower Records in one half of the building, and Tower Posters and Plants in the other. And you'd spend hours pouring over the imports section trying to find Weird Shit from England(tm)
